The Beeb are making (Detectorists) and buying (the Code) some good stuff just lately. The Detectorists does have the same slow-burning feel as Early Doors, but that is some show to live up to, possibly my favourite show ever! Old Tommy's new job has me in fits every time

That is a wonderful piece of comedy. Still go back to early doors episodes even though i've watched them many times. The Detectorists is ok but doesn't bare comparison

Indeed a quiet gem. Has me lolling.

Pearce Quigley is a scene-tealer for me (beardy bespectacled guy in the club).

Without sounding poncey I saw his Bottom in The Globe's production of A Midsummer Night's Dream last year. Ab-so-lute-ly outstanding. It was a superb production and he was the best thing in it.

Lame. Turned it off after 10 minutes, not having managed a single laugh.

I'm certain a proper metal detector "DETECTORIST!" would scan again after taking out a pound coin or ringpull. Even if it spoiled the ending.

Just watched the final episode, really enjoyed every episode.

Can't quite work out why. Very subtle, mundane life in rural England - but well crafted, well performed comedy.

Looking forward to series two!

I loved the conversation about men and their hobbies and collections. Delivered dead-pan by Toby Jones...

"You give a man a cactus and he's got a cactus.
Give him another cactus and he's got 'a collection'
go back 2 years later and he's had to move to a bigger house to accommodate all his cacti

A woman would get to 3 cacti and think that that was probably enough"

๐Ÿ˜† so true!

As I mentioned before I didn't get this show but I did only stick it out for 2 episodes.

But Yonderland was great and Early Doors was fanstatic

Just caught up, that was the best of the six episodes. Toby Jones is superb, I echo the comments about the cactus collection speach. Just brilliant in every way, can't wait for series two.

Loved the crop markings, and the way the theme tune fitted at the end. "I'm waiting for you..."

Sophie surely became a heartthrob for SF nerds everywhere with her "We must be cautious" response.

Thread ressurection as the first series is currently being repeated so it is on iplayer. The second series and Christmas special will follow.

It is so frustrating that it has been tucked away at 11pm at night when the bbc should be shouting from the rooftops about this series.

Thanks for the heads up. Loved the series.

Agree its hard to see where the plot can go but I don't care. It's all about characters and atmosphere.

I've been telling everyone I know to watch it on iPlayer - top news for the second series.

The writing and the musical choices are sublime IMO.

I have the first series saved on the Sky+ box. I know it's been re-run recently. Might have to hastily re-watch it ahead of next week.

I love the theme music by Johnny Flynn. It's one of those songs that makes the world feel OK every time I listen to it.
