top tip #1 when you do get your ink elaine... dont drink alcohol before hand (avoid drinking the ngiht before) as it turns even the super-syrup-clotting-blooded people into bleeders...
top tip #2 make sure you eat before hand and take a bit of a sugary snack for afterwards as most people have a little sugar crash.
hope that helps, enjoy it!
top tip #3 use suntan lotion on it to stop it fading, plus it keeps any colours nice and vibrant
Quite depressing to see the level of bigotry on this thread, though not entirely surprising
quite simply I don't think it can be characterised as bigotry - if someone chooses to mutilate themselves then one is entitled to draw conclusions and level criticism. Few other than Shib have gone beyond this to actually disadvantage tattoo wearers, but this is a clear possibility entailed in choosing to be tattooed.
Except its not actually 'mutilation' though is it Simon? Mutilation, at least in my experience, implies something far more serious than getting a tattoo or piercing that in later life you may or may not regret, and if that's the case, so what? This thread has shifted massively from whether or not someone should have a tattoo to yet another STW rambling argument. Is it really that big a deal, and does it really have that big an impact on anybody? Really?
Is it really that big a deal, and does it really have that big an impact on anybody? Really?
not in the least, and I never suggested it was 🙂 And that makes the 'bigotry' claim even more inappropriate.
Simon beat me to what I was about to post after reading the overnight posts. People should be very careful bandying the word 'bigot' around. I have similar views to people wearing, say, football kits for work, or anything that advertised party political allegiances.
That's not bigotry, it's common commercial sense. As for my personal views, I, like everyone else is perfectly entitled to form and hold views, even if others disagree.
I think basejumpers are stoopid; I think fell runners are stoopid. And I have no qualms saying to someone "You're a basejumper? You must be bloody stoopid!". And I have no qualms telling my tattooed friends that I think they're stoopid.
The reality of the situation is that most people with tats relish the fact that people think they're a little odd, a bit edgy, dangerous. Comments like the joker earlier that said the pain was all part of the experience support this, and I'm sure the vast majority of tattoo wearers revel in the perceived status that having ink affords them.
So when, on the other hand, they start bleeting on about how bigotted I am to not want my clients to perceive my staff as odd, edgy or dangerous, I wholeheartedly reserve the right to tell them not to be stoopid.
Here endeth the lesson. Fact.
ok i think we shud close this case now b4 it ends up at crown court ! lol
simon may go rant on sum other poor lost souls thread ! teeeheee
ok i officially :mrgreen:END
this thread
************************************************************************** *THE END (i mean it ! 😉)*
The one thing I don't understand out of this whole ten pages, is what the professional communications industry is. Can someone enlighten me?
simon may go rant on sum other poor lost souls thread !
if you really think I'm ranting then you are stupid 🙂 However I don't need your permission to do things.
The reality of the situation is that most people with tats relish the fact that people think they're a little odd, a bit edgy, dangerous.
which reality would that be?
That's not bigotry, it's common commercial sense.
I couldn't disagree more (in a commercial sense) - I think if there's one this you could take from this thread it's arguably that the old perception of tattoos being the preserve of a certain class no longer holds true, tattoos and piercings, whatever you may think of them, are becoming more prevalent across all walks of life. From a business point of view you're going to be better off being inclusive rather than exclusive...
would echo philconsequence's comments re booze and food - my tattooist asked if i'd had any alcohol in the last 24 hours before he started. the food thing is important too - i took sugary stuff in with me, and needed it after about 15mins when i felt quite sick/light headed from the build up of nerves/adrenaline. also don't take painkillers before hand either.
i also took arnica the day of the tattoo and for the first few days afterwards. also follow your aftercare guidelines - mine healed really quickly and needed no touch ups as i was very careful about washing it and putting the cream on 3 x a day.
Can someone enlighten me?
It's telling lies to sell stuff/services
So advertising then. Thanks, I don't know why he didn't just say that...
"You're a basejumper? You must be bloody stoopid!"
Wow, what a stupid thing to say Shib 🙂 Really. Very stupid indeed!
I couldn't disagree more (in a commercial sense)
Not really. It depends what you are doing in business and who you are working to / for. If someone owns a business, then they decide their own image.
Elaine - I realise that you really, really want this thread to end, and I kind of agree, but have you thought about having 'I heart Shibboleth' tattooed on your back?
The one thing I don't understand out of this whole ten pages, is what the professional communications industry is. Can someone enlighten me?
'Professional Communications Industry' = Photocopying.
Ooh Elfin, you are spiteful 😆
I'd forgotten how entertaining Adam-G's characters could be. I'm not sure we've missed it as such, but it's good to be reminded... 🙂
Isn't it just PR but tarted up to sound like something else?
Everybody wants a tattoo. The only reason not everyone has a tattoo is because they're scared. Shib sounds like the biggest pussy of the lot - fact.
😉

The reality of the situation is that most people with tats relish the fact that people think they're a little odd, a bit edgy, dangerous
i don't think they are edgy or dangerous. it's 2010 not the 50's. i'm more likely to think somebody is "stoopid" for having one if it's incongruous to that persons personality. like a celtic band on somebody who drank a pint of guinness once but has no oirish connections.
if they are works of art then they look interesting for a couple of seconds (which is how long i look at photographs/paintings in galleries), after that they aren't worth contemplating
most of the rest are banal like the band logos, tribal's,celtic, kids names, football team, stars, pixies,SS cogs etc.
tattoos don't make people more interesting they are just people with ink on their skin. anyone who thinks otherwise is under the same delusion as those who think a tattoo will change them overnight into an "odd" or "edgy" person.
and perhaps a little bit "stoopid"
shad up yo face woody ! ive got a headache..
uncanny.....were we ever married 😉
and perhaps a little bit "stoopid"
realistically, having a tattoo won't make you any stupider 🙂

how long is the longest thread on ere anyway ? are we heading for a guinness record yet ? 😉
are you sure 'bout that simon ? stooooopido ?
about what ? If you mean the "ranting", I haven't been doing that. I don't care if people have tattoos, but all the arguments back and forth are funny 🙂
