Norbar if you want best performance v value v price

Madison do an M:Part one for £59.99 which is all you need for occasional use though. I think it does from 3Nm to 15Nm. Comes with a range of bits.

Definitely Norbar IME. Accurate out of the box and has stayed that way for several years; a cheaper one had to be adjusted every year and was dumped after the third year of straying off tolerance

I bought a Norbar SLO 4-20 Nm  six or seven years ago and never regretted spending a little more although they now seem quite a lot more expensive.

I bought a couple of cheapish Sealey wrenches years back that still seem to work, although they're probably way out of whack by now.

On a recent thread about torque wrenches on here, someone suggested that digital ones are better as they use strain gauges, rather than mechanical parts (I assume they stay calibrated better) but I've no idea if that's the case.

I have noticed that Norbar's digital wrenches have much wider torque ranges than mechanical ones (such as 10-200Nm).

Sealey I bought was ok but hard to set accurately and wasn’t bi directional.

Halfords professional are made by norbar and significantly cheaper. I’m guessing home use levels mean calibration will not be an issue (is it use or age that causes them to go out?). Digital are a lot more expensive.

Oh yes they’re just for occasional home bike use.

I’ll have a look at the M-Part one then thank you, looks similar to Planet-X but can imagine the internals are likely better due to double the price

Looking at other photo reviews I can see they are a different complete body and i can get it Amazon primed so I’ll order one of these thank you

I liked my Jobsworth PX one, seemed to do everything I needed it to do. I never really bother with one for things like cassettes where it asks for millions of torque, just the smaller 5-7NM bolts and I never had an issue with it. Built up a couple bikes with it.

Just before Christmas though I somehow managed to leave it on the little boot shelf of the car leaving Glentress and must have trapped it under the boot door a bit, and now the bits don't go on any more. Not sure how I didn't damage the car!

Anyway, might get another one.
