Look at the slim fit range in M&S. pretty good value and tailoring's ok.

For a contemporrararary look, check our Reiss. I have two suits from them and they seem to understand how a suit can fit a slim physique. Ted Baker seem to think that all blokes are box shaped!

My favourite suit is from French Connection. Not boxy but not that stupid Dior-a-like slim fitting nonsense. Excellent quality and extremely comfortable.

If youre wearing a shirt with a standard collar then go for a Thomas Pink shirt. Theyre the best shirts sensible money can buy.

At your budget I wouldn't bother trying to go down the made to measure route. Another difficulty (apart from cost) is that if you expect to change body shape between now and the big day, what you are measured for now may not fit then. I would wait until closer to the day, try lots of things on, see what fits best (and more importantly feels best), and go with that. Slight alterations to a good quality OTP suit can give a pretty good result.

check out King and Allen; I got one made there last year and makes my wife want to be seen with me, which is recommendation enough.

What - something you only wear when the missus is out and the curtains are closed?

😳

Check out TK Max before going anywhere else, you never know what they'll have in, often old stock from Moss Bros and the like. I picked up a slim-fit DKNY suit last year for pennies that even Mrs Strongbow approved of.

that's what i ended up doing, probably cost as much as a lower end bespoke but the alterations were done in house by a very competent seamstress/tailor and impossible to spot where the alterations were done.
i think you have to find a 'brand' with a house style you like and a cut that fits you.
i went to Nicole Farhi in the end after looking at Aquascutem/PS and a few others.
wearing a suit that fits you well soon makes you realise how shit other people look in ones that don't

AND DONT FORGET THE SHOES!
a nice suit is pointless without impeccable choice of footwear (grenson/cheaney/barker/sanders/trickers etc etc)

sugestion . have a look in TKMaxx for suits - i regularly get from in there I have recently got a Cerutti one £140, Simon Carter £99 and two Calvin ones at 160 a pop .. spent about 20 quid getting them taylored just the way i want and Et voila ! .. I am lucky as im a very standard shape for suits so may not be good for eveyone .. but my closest one in watford usualy has a massive selection .. worth a gander

hmmm TKmaxx did have some s****y looking suits in when i wandered around the other day.... all the odd bin type sizes though. would rather find something that fits as best as possible before getting it altered than trying to make a tent look good as it were 🙂

thank you again everyone!

its not you're normal wedding, which is handy as we can tweak it to save hundreds lol

probably end up with shoes, not sure my fluffy imitation bear feet slippers will set the suit off as nice as i imagined.

Look at the Austin Reed online sale.
Crackin suits - I've just received two today for 200 (but that was with a deal they ran last week).
Quality blows Ted Baker etc out of the water.

Best fitting suit i have is a Timothy Everest M&S suit, I read yesterday that Richard James is doing a line of suits for M&S due out later in the month. Also John Lewis have a few odd final clearance Richard James 'Mayfair' suits online, bit hit & miss with the sizing though.

As above TK Maxx have a few decent suits, but be prepared to rummage!

You could go for a Mr Bathing Ape tweed jacket (currently in the sale if you look around) and maybe have enough change for a pair of ill fitting wrangler jeans to go with it ;O)

I'm a really odd shape - 48/50 chest, 34/36 waist - and can never find a suit that fits nicely. M & S Sartorial range is nice as you can chop and change to suit, so I tend to use these for day-to-day school duties.

For nice stuff I have a couple of handmade suits, and they really are better in every way.

I'm sure you'll look lovely Phil. A fascinator will set it all off nicely...

Forgot to mention Paul Smith do a 3 day warehouse clearance sale near the Aldwych around May/June, suits for £120 the past 2 years, also Hugo Boss clearance/sample sale at their offices in Camden around June or July.

Only thing with these sales - no changing rooms so just hope the trousers are proper fit, not some strange skinny hip, drainpipe affair.

If you can get to a large city fairly easily, flick through the city papers or look online, a few of the Hong Kong firms like Raja Fashions mentioned earlier in the thread do UK tours where they will measure you up at a hotel room and make a suit for you.

I've been into Raja's shop in HK and they are often recommended - i've never used them though. Not as cheap as it used to be, when I first started going out to HK regularly about 5-6 years ago you used to be able to get tailored shirts for £22 a pop and a good suit for £3-400, it's easily 50% more now.

I've been very impressed with Brook Taverner - free returns, no quibble exchange, and often 50% off if you hunt around for a voucher. http://www.brooktaverner.co.uk/?source=iups&kwd=smart

As for the King and Allen recommendation - I was fully prepared to go down that route and went to one of their fitting sessions in the city. The suit the assistant was wearing was so poorly fitted I immediately

AND DONT FORGET THE SHOES!

Very true, crockett and jones for me - had more subsequent use out of the shoes than the suit... ebay can find you some deals on nice shoes, mine were less than half the in store price.

I'm very tall, so M&S mixed and matched to get close, then off to my tailor to tweak it until it fitted the way I like it. And you can buy two pairs of trousers if you use the suit a lot to avoid any nasty shiny-ness in the seat area. In my opinion, a well cut suit of a reasonable fabric outdoes a reasonably cut suit in a great fabric. Unless you wear it inside out so that people can see the label...

Go to Boundary Mill Stores in Colne and you'll get THREE suits for £350.

No good if you don't live in Lancashire or West Yorkshire though.

If less than 300GBP its best just to get off the peg unless you happen to be in Hong Kong or Thailand, even then some of the more western based tailors (such as Raja Fashions) are getting more expensive than say 2-3 years ago.
Most of my work gear is bespoke, both Saville Row and local Hong Kong shops, and I have to admit it is difficult to tell the difference as most cloths made on 'the row' are in fact put together in China!
