[Closed] STW menfolk - washing machines - fear or embrace them?

I don't mind admitting that I quite enjoy pitching in with the clothes laundering. I find the whole thing quite theraputic. Sorting the whites/darks/towels and chucking them in the drum, selecting the right program and adding powder and softener. I also enjoy pegging it all out on the line and bringing it in smelling all lovely and feeling soft on the nose.

F*ck the ironing though. Boring and it gives me backache. Over to Mrs. S for that shit!

Am I alone in this.....?

For me Ironing is only for work gear (and if i'm trying to impress).
Ironing quickly became something i could not be arsed with. Still don't see the point. Washing was theraputic for about the first few times i did it. Then it became a chore, now it's a must.

I'm alone full stop. Kind of means I have to do the lot.

Embrace, particularly after a wet and muddy night ride. Mainly out of fear of what will happen if I just dump mucky kit in the washing basket/on the kitchen floor.

I'm alone too, means I don't ever need to wash anything.

My SO refuses to go near my cycling kit so that is definately down to me !

I'm happy to a load through the machine then hang it out or stick it in the dryer depending on the day.

I draw the line at ironing nowadays.......well, sometimes I will iron my work shirts but everything else is over to her 🙂

Maybe it's in my blood from my time in the forces when I used to have a bat man to do my ironing and bring a cup of tea in the mornings - those were the days 😉

I am with you derek_starship.

The bit I most enjoy is the pegging out, particularly on a lovely sunny summer's morning.

Next best bit is taking it off the line and folding it up neatly.

I can work nearly any gadget there is within a few minutes. But still don't understand washing machines, why can't they just tell you what they do what's the funk a b and c all about why so many draws.

Hate it leave to the wife I can wash stuff if I have to but hate them. They're noisy heavy things about time they came up with a modern design. Dysons is too expensive.

I avoid buying white things so everything gets chucked in together. Ironing... never bother (though on the very rare occasions that I've had I agree it's quite relaxing, and satisfying when you get that perfectly ironed shirt).

If Ironing is going to be done. It should be done under extreme conditions.

chuck it all in together on a cold wash. I don't own any white clothes or anything that will need ironing.

It's amazing how many of Mrs Grips' mumsnet friends iron everything. Like, you have so little housework to do that you have to invent it?

Ironing for work shirts and trousers, and MAYBE one or two of my casual shirts - that's it. Some of these people are ironing babygrows FFS!

Came in the other day and managed to do some bath towels at 90 deg 🙁 Just about to take them off the line so I'll see if they're now tea towels. In my defence I'd not slept the night before so was a bit tired and forgot to set the temperature dial on the normal wash cycle I use.

I do not and have never owned an iron. I just buy shirts that look better creased, or pretend to myself that they are that type 🙂

Best bit of advice I was given was never to learn how to use these domestic implements and if you're forced into using them due to extenuating circumstances (wife/GF giving birth or on ITU for example), then c*ck it up - otherwise they'll have you using them all the time. It's the beginning of a very slippery slope. Trust me.

Embrace...make sure you wipe around the rip and leave the door open to air (oo-er).

Washing is fine, although learning these new North American toploading washers is weird - they have tiny capacities!
Ironing I have never embraced. The missus must iron all our bedsheets (just, why?!), my shirts, jeans and suchlike. I have tried to explain to her that I would barely notice if all my shirts were ironed; I'll see if it has any effect.

And extreme ironing is bogus. Where does the cord and plug go, hmmmmm??!!!

Bath towels wash well at 90. They come out ready to dry you really well. Uses tons of power tho.

Why do you need left-handed iron ?

I'm left handed and don't have any problems, so what would be different with a lefthanded iron ?
I think he's just making excuses 😉

Does he also refuse to do any DIY as you don’t have a left-handed hammer?
