Think I'm pretty close, was working on something last night - just need to get a better take.

Is it any use if I simply lob backing track on one channel, guitar on t'other ? - that ought to be easy to separate I'd have thought.

I'm clearly missing something here! How do I get Audacity to record a stereo track without it recording the backing track onto it too? Every time I hit the record button it records the guitar I'm playing live, but also the backing track onto the new track. Help!

OOps, not meant that way at all. Not saying yours lacks taste, think it sounds ace.
What I really mean that the track will be better for different styles.

You musicians and your fragile egos 😉

Hummerlicious, if you're still speaking to me, good to see another Paul Gilbert fan. Saw him live in Glasgow a couple of years ago. Wow, my jaw was badly bruised from continually hitting the floor. Did a cover of Hendrix's Red House. He tore the blues a new assh0le.

It's alright, I should have added a 😉

I saw Paul last year at the Concorde 2 in Bighton, I think he's great, amazingly fast picking.

Plumber, yes I love Neal Schon, told you I'd forgotten some. The last band I was in we did 6 Journey songs in the set!

OK I am seriously intimidated by all these good guitarists so to balance it out I've uploaded my piss poor efforts

Guitar only

Here's mine....

Guitar only

Only got to do the first 66 bars, as I could not come up with any ideas to play over the changes, and the family are sat in the dark, as the low energy lights make my guitar buzz like mad ;-).

This has been good fun! Kudos to all the submissions so far, let's have lots more!

The geetar was a 335 into an Orange Tiny Terror, with the master volume on full, though a Marshall powerbrake and into an old Park 2x12.

I think the scale is Dorian mode, (you just play a major scale, but shift it two frets down, so if the song is in A, you play G major scale). Also probably added the 'blue' note (b5th) when required.

Aah, a bit of Dorian action, I struggle to steel myself off the Natural minor thing, despite my best efforts. I had to force myself to think about the blue note for this (if indeed I used it, I can't remember!).

Good stuff anyway 🙂

Does anyone know if there is a simple app on a iMac pro to record? I have Garage Band but it seems to be quite complicated and I've never used it before. ta!

TBH, from what I can gather, Garage Band is about as simple as it gets. It would be less hassle to watch some tutorial videos and read the manual than to try and find another application. All music applications have a learning curve, and Garage Band will be about as shallow as it gets.

I'm sure there would be plenty of people who would help you with this on the forum (i'll help as much as I can, but i've not used Garage Band)

Cheers,

simon - i used Garage band for mine. it is very easy

you can just drag the backing track MP3 from itunes into Garage band as one of the tracks

then use an additional track to record your guitar

Yup, me - many apologies, had a bit of faffing with mixed recording/mp3 yesterday (ie they shouldn't have been). A minor bit of cack-handedness remaining to fix when I get in and I'll upload/post here.

(I need to check what quality it's been exported with, it's default at the mo, whatever that is)

As mentioned, backing on one side, guitar on t'other. I'm in all evening so please post if there's a problem.

Now you tell me 🙂

Re the fave guitarists thing, it's something like (in no order except mebbe the order I came across 'em):

Alex Lifeson, Ted Nugent, Angus Young, Uli Roth, Pat Travers, Al Di Meola, EVH, Randy Rhodes, Vivian Campbell (Dio era), Steve Vai, Paul Gilbert (does quite a heavy version of a Paula Abdul tune !), George Lynch, Nuno Bettercourt..

..with liberal helpings in various years of John McLaughlin, Neil Schon (good call Plumb !), Joe Satriani, Alexi Laiho, Dimebag, Marty Friedman, Dave Mustaine (oh, and the dodgy couple from that 'other' band), plus Trower, Gallagher.

I guess that'll do for the moment !

I do have the goatee, but not on steroids, it annoys mrs hummerlicious when it gets too long!

Mrs Jond took a while to get used to mine (had a shorter version for years), but has since realised it's a huge source of amusement on passing small children..they frequently exhibit a 'wtf is that ?' moment 😉
