Just try a different app? eg the Wahoo app.
Should work fine with the Mio HRM, and sync to Strava.

@CraigW - you're a genius, thanks! £150 saved, landfill avoided. Wahoo app saves the day!

Re Wahoo app; be careful that it’s acquired your HR sensor and GPS before you hit start. It doesn’t seem to be able to acquire either once the exercise has started. I’ve lost a few KMs from my recordings recently because of that; which is disproportionately irritating, despite the fact that it shouldn’t really matter...

I've been using my mio go with wahoo fitness app on android that syncs to strava since they stopped support without any issues.

Option I use is the (free) Polar Beats app with a £20 CooSpo Bluetooth HR strap from Amazon. Instantly syncs with Strava as soon as you end the ride on the Polar app.

I'm tied to using something that records it for Vitality, and this is working superbly.

What’s ‘vitality’?

I've just decided to start using a heart monitor again. I have a Moto android phone and I use Strava for recording my rides. In simple language, what strap should I get and what app should I install so I get a no fuss experience recording some HR data along with my Strava rides. I'm interested in finding out what my max is these days and finding if there's a zone I can stay in on longer rides to avoid conking out miles from home.

After some teething issues with the app I’m now happy to (in STW stylee) recommend the combo I use, which is a wahoo tickr strap combined with the wahoo app. Works great on iPhone and uploads to Strava with one click at the end of the ride or run. Just make sure the GPS has acquired your position before you hit start as it doesn’t seem to be able to do it after the go button has been pressed. Grrr
