So, 2016 claims another..
Stand down George Michael..
Not really a fan of his work, bit 2016 does seem
Particularly harsh..
Just been watching top of pops 2 and last Christmas was being played and the BBC app flashed this news. 53 very young nowadays.
It was his "Last Christmas"
Sorry, RIP George
Not another one.
I hadn't really rated him as a singer, and then this....
Sad news indeed, let's hope that it's a hoax as this website is claiming
http://en.mediamass.net/people/george-michael/deathhoax.html
Jeez, I knew he'd had "health" issues in the last few years, but another one.
I hadn't really rated him as a singer, and then this....
If you think that's good, you should listen to some of his solo stuff.
It's on Beeb at present. Thames Valley police confirming his death.
Yup. Confirmed by Thames Valley.
RIP
I was in a band , we used to cover Careless Whisper in a punk style. He was a talented fella, 53 too close to my own age.
Shit the bed. This year has been ****ed up!!
RIP George.
Don't worry, someone will be along shortly to say you didn't really know him that well anyway...
Always thought this was someone singing at the top of their game.
2016: the year that keeps on taking. ๐
I reckon it's building up to the Queen for the finale.
Cheerio George, thanks for the hits. Say hi to Freddie.
Sad end to what had been a lovely day

That'd be worth a listen if there's any copies. I remember slow dancing the girlfiend of the time at a do on the Warrington airbase to Careless Whisper. Good times.

I knew you were waiting for some careless whispers, but I have faith they won't be forthcoming.
That's nine years younger than me...
Just when you were hoping it couldn't get any worse!
Not a fan of the man or his music, but dammit, that's far too young, even taking into account a rather louche lifestyle.
2017 has to be better.
Surely?

Not sure if any of the cassettes survived. I spent ages learning the sax part on my bass, didn't get fed up with the song like you can doing that sort of thing! Guilty Feet was the secret band name I was keeping if I ever formed another one

No fan but saw him at the Freddie Mercury Tribute Concert and he was good belting out stuff with Queen.
Talented man. His music generally wasn't my cup of tea but the Faith album was perfect for it's time. Sign of the times I suppose that he could not admit his sexuality until hsi father died. I do wonder whether all the drugs where the sign if a tortured soul. RIP
RIP.
@jamba - your words pretty much sum it up.
And so ends Christmas Day.
Stolen from twitter:
He wrote careless whisper when he was 17, most 17 year olds couldn't write a shopping list.
I reckon it's building up to the Queen for the finale.
There's still time, I could use a free day off.
A bonkers year indeed...
May his memory be eternal.
๐
he always had a sort of eff you attitude which I quite liked.
RIP chap was a pillar of the 80s.
RIP
His life away from the limelight was far removed from my own lifestyle choices, but liked a number of his tunes after the Wham split ~30 years ago, very talented singer.
RIP
I've always rated George as a singer and performer - I'd say he was pretty much the king of pop but that would probably be doing his songwriting skills a disservice.
Jesus to a child remains one of the most wonderful tributes to a loved one ever written IMO.
Freedom 90 is about as perfect a pop song as could be written.
And his voice was flawless live.
I think he was largely underrated, or perhaps overlooked, because many weren't comfortable with his lifestyle choices, which is a real shame.
I'm gutted he's gone, would've loved to have seen a triumphant comeback album at some point.
2016 has been bizzarre.
What a shock.
Listen without prejudice is a tremendous record.
I heard he choked to death on a chocolate bar, it was a careless wispa...
Gary C, you are a chump of the highest order
Met him on a plane once and we had a long chat instigated by him. He was a very nice man and seemed basically a bit lonely despite his success. We shared a drink and discussed everything apart from music. A real talent and like many , struggled with lots of things. Sad day.
My big sister was a huge Wham fan, I got dragged along to see them in concert and actually ended up quite liking them.
RIP Geprge.
Listen Without Prejudice is a tremendous record.
I agree 100%.
Well, there you go.
The Faith era was my favourite, he played his part in a little of my life.
Sad news.
I only heard the news this morning....it made me very sad. RIP George.
Shocking news, RIP
I only heard the news this morning....it made me very sad. RIP George.
Me too.
I told my wife. It made her sad too.
RIP George.
I read this thread late last night in bed I had some ear buds in but not plugged into the ipad.
So when I was listening to the tracks on the first page they where playing out loud and my wife is now convinced she was dreaming of GM!
We both really enjoyed his music over the years, in fact one of the few vinyl albums I've kept is Wham Fantastic. Talented fella, RIP
