am thinking of saving for a guitar with a 24" scale and i do like the look of jaguar guitars (especially after seeing the johnny marr sig one).
have just seen this pic today of some new squier models 😯 😛
they look bloody fab 😀
unfortunately release and price still yet to be confirmed (although i have read june time and around £300-£320 prices banded about) please make it so 😀
Never played one, but they look really nice (IMHO). 🙂
Bloody hell, they even appear to have the correct bridge on them rather than the frankly horrible (IMHO) tune-o-matic style bridge that Fender have been substituting on seemingly all Jaguar/Jazzmaster variants apart from the AVRI and the CIJ/MIJ models. This is VERY important in making the trem work properly.
It looks like the tailpiece is in the right place too - several recent versions (e.g. MIM Classic Player) have moved the tailpiece closer to the bridge to give a sharper break angle over the saddle. Good news for sustain, but that was never a key part of the Jazzmaster/Jaguar character, and to my mind significantly detracts from the character of the guitar IMHO.
The "correct" bridge is mounted on pointy pivots, and the bridge should rock back and forth with string tension. Ideally the strings should "catch" on the saddles for maximum tuning stability. They're a bit tricky to set up right and widely misunderstood, but once they're working properly, the trem is a joy to use and tuning as stable as you'll get on any non-locking trem.
With the tune-o-matic style arrangement, the bridge is mounted on fixed posts and does not move - instead, the strings slide over the saddles.
I had a squire strat many moons ago. It was rubbish.
Rusty Spanner apologies (i should have put up those pics too 😳 squier/fender seem to be on a roll atm 😀 which is great for people like myself with not a lot of cash to spend.
Daft innit?
I played a CV Strat and a very posh one in a shop in York a while ago.
I prefered the cheap one. 😐
Probably because I'm just a rubbsh guitarist, but it just felt nicer and sounded great too.
Yes, I'd love an American Fender, but I doubt if I'll ever be able to justify one. Squire are great.
I've a Squire J Mascuis Jazzmaster and its bloody lovely, in fact its better quality that my old USA strat! Yes it has the tun-o-matic bridge but to be honest after the LIVING HELL that was the Jag bridge I'd settle for a slightly altered trem function.
On the other hand I also have a USA blacktop Jazzmaster, on which I swapped out the fender 'bucker and replaced with a SD Distortion along with swapping the Jag bridge for a mustang bridge.
The old Jag bridge is a TERRIBLE TERRIBLE thing and those who endorse it should be forced to scrabble around on the floor during a gig hunting for a stupid grub screw that despite being loctite'd in still managed to work its way loose. BAN THAT SICK FILTH NOW.
I'm now off to hide my bank card.
MrNutt - I beg to differ. The Jaguar/Jazzmaster bridge is a thing of loveliness when set up correctly. They're usually not. I'll openly admit that a badly setup Jaguar/Jazzmaster bridge is not a thing of loveliness and not something you'd want to contend with in a gig situation, but then again that's true of *any* guitar which isn't working correctly. Oh, and
a [s]slightly altered[/s] fundamentally different trem function
FTFY 😉
It's really not, I've set the retched thing up properly again and again, I wanted to love it, I really did. But I can't, you must me Ms Leo Fender and I claim my five pounds!

I'm sure they play really well but I just don't like 'em. Oh don't like Gibson SG's either..
However the Vintage LP lemondrop you got raceface is a thing of absolute beauty
Really can't get excited by fender guitars.

Squiers come in many flavours... Affinities are pretty poor- minimum tolerable guitar sort of level. But my 80s-ish korean Tele is one of the best guitars I've ever played- I sold my Gibson SG to fund it, correct decision.
The last guitar I nearly bought was one of those Vintage Modified Squiers like Rusty posted... Ridiculously good for what it is.
Really can't get excited by fender guitars.
Burn the witch......sorry 😀 They are a bit more fussy than Gibsons to be fair
Just a minor thread resurrection, thanks to this thread and to some extent the Stone Roses being back together, I've decided to start playing guitar again after about 12 years of not playing.
I should be picking my new Sonic Blue Jazzmaster and tidy little Vox amp up on Wednesday.
Cheers for the inspiration Racefaceec90
Holy thread ressurrection batman - I must have missed this one on its first incarnation - wot do all the switches do on the top ones?
