OMG, where's the thread? I LOVE this programme - probably you're all busy watching but who'd you vote for? ๐Ÿ™‚

Cool, was hoping there would be some mention

Not mentioned, but a clip of her in action. She's been on Radio 4 and 5Live this week though.

No idea who I'd vote for, half a dozen really strong candidates this year.

If anyone wants to argue the toss about the use of the word "personality", go start your own thread.

Watched a few minutes, terrible, reports all with the "Eddy Butler style of talking cobblers in the hope people think your being poetic" switched over

Turned it off because it was so cringe-worthy. Glanced back later to see things had gone from bad to worse with the appearance of Robbie Williams and then another look back brought the multiple 48, 49, 50 and 51m breaststroke swimming champ Michael Phelps onto the screen.

Just piss off and show some decent highlights!

cringe-worthy.

^^This^^

Gave up on it years ago, sadly. It used to be a real treat around Christmas when I was growing up, looking back at rugby/cricket, learning about sports I didn't see/follow. Now it's just become another back slapping slebfest, IMO.

Sorry if you thought it's "sports I'm interested in review of the year".

Robbie Williams aside, it's been good this year. Good coverage of lesser known sports and stars with the Olympics and Paralympics.

Really enjoying it as ever.
And as it's 2016 I have a horrible feeling that Jamie Vardy will win it, once again proving we don't deserve nice things.

More signing, clips of American sport, and passed away sports people than a mention of Miss Atherton achievements. WTF!!

Team of the year Leicester City - I'm no longer a footy fan, but that's a fair one.

Skelton/Brownlee runners up - good to see some lesser names (to the masses) do well.
Andy Murray - well done on a great year. Good to see him cracking a joke too, although I think he should have made an effort to get there.

MTB is a minuscule minority sport on the unfashionable outer edges of sport. DH is a still smaller subset of that. No one cares. Or, at least, no great number of people care.

That's in no way to denigrate La Atherton's efforts, which have been stellar, but it's a bit like saying there wasn't enough mention of canoeing. No one cares.

But MTB is more sport significant than singing. More popular than Baseball and American football. And Miss A achievements surely more relevant than those that have passed. Other minority sports had coverage.

Yawn. Would at least be something if Rachel was in the list. Once again the person with least personality wins.

Interesting (ish) - add em all up and cycling had no chance this year.

I just find the fact that a double double olympic champion not getting in the top three a bit absurd. Perhaps he's just the wrong colour for a lot of voters....

You got an ethnic minority winner - what more do you want?

I've not been here all day and just realised there's been a bit of debate/closed threads already regarding immigrants/cheats/folk of the wrong colour. My bad!

Probably not, I'm afraid.

Look at the NFL games in Wembley. Sold out every time, even with mediocre teams coming over.

You mean the same public that has previously voted for Lewis Hamilton, Lennox Lewis, Kelly Holmes, and Lindford Christie as winners?

It's for achievements this year. Laura Trott won 2 Olympic golds. Is she the wrong colour as well?

Maybe, but virtually nobody watches it. Millions watch NFL and MLB.

How many people participate in tennis? 247,419 or so?

Angling is still, I believe, among the highest numbers in terms of participation.

What is this? No representation without participation?

Murray is double olympic champion

Not black though, so it doesn't fit the criteria to allow someone to yell, "WAYCIST!"

I'd venture that the majority of folks in the UK that watch NFL aren't particularly sporty, and watch it for the sheer amount of snack opportunities.

If it was about participation, angling would win ahead of football. Don't remember anglers getting much of a shout, so it's not about participation.

I believe the show to be a celebration of UK sporting achievment and sadly the achievements of Miss A have been deemed less worthy than an American Baseball team winning for the first time in admittedly along time

Sometimes I'd like to punch the BBC! Others it's untouchable. That's probably half the problem!
