People quoting figures to 0.1mpg does the wind never blow? Do you always drive exactly the same roads with the same traffic?

Does the wind blowing mean your consumption can only be in integers?

Ooh, another exciting car fuel thread. This place just gets better all the time!

They’ll be another thread about splitting the bill soon. Oh wait!

It's a point of interest for me... without the bike rack it hovers just below 50mpg and to keep things interesting I try and get the last couple of decimals to hit a magic number.

5lab..thanks for the info ..all very interesting !
However taking onboard what you have written ( not disputing ) ..I'm still convinced that what I've seen ( on the diesel pump handle )..is the figure 97 .
Maybe it's a cock-up..but I will check again in the morning ...
Costco Gateshead
Heads will roll!
Other than that ..it just works equally as well if not better than v-power..and significantly better than " normal " diesel .

~40mpg in the petrol C-Max on mostly long journeys as I avoid using it for local trips, it'll do low 20's on the short commute according to the computer! It will actually beat the official figures if you limp home on the space saver at 80km/h!

~30mpg in the Midget, it'll match the C-max on the motorway because I don't like going much faster than the trucks! I run it on the rule of thumb that it takes equal parts petrol and maintenance on a £:£ basis!

subaru outback, - low 40's for A/B roads, low 50's for motorways.
T5 2.5 130 - low 30's for A/B roads, high 30's for motorways.

47-55 depending on how much town driving. That's on the dash display so maybe knock a couple of miles off for the true figure. 1.4TSI

BMW330i - 26.8mpg average as it mostly does short runs these days. Previously was 29.6mpg with more mixed driving and will achirve about 34-36mpg on a run.

2.4 atmo V50 5 pot estate automatic, sneaks up to 40mpg on the motorway if I drive slow, literally truck speed. Horrendous around town.

7 litres/100km when on an autobahn run (think that's 40mpg ish? for UK gallon, not a short-changed US gallon)  edit: that's in a 2002ish Seat Leon Cupra

much less around town obviously

@fossy that sounds painful if I’ve read it right. I manage either 27 or 35 mile commute in 40minutes. I think that would do me in.

Our VW Passat gets a solid 6l/100km on most long journeys, sometimes more (if loaded) sometimes less. This is not super good compared to some diesels, but for a 1.4 flexifuel is actually not bad, especially as the car is usually being driven at steady motorway speeds. A diesel would have been better, but would have had issues with particulates in town.

well when you hand it back at the end of the rental they will know how its been driven at least.

It’s not a rental. 🤷🏻‍♂️

you bought it at the end of the lease ?

F31 330d xDrive with remap to 290bhp averaging 42.6mpg over the 40,000 miles I have had it, never run eco mode, sport mode for general driving and sport mode and sport mode on gearbox to make progress so quite pleased with the mpg overall, also pleased that I have managed 35k on a set of tyres that still have 2mm of tread depth, will be changed this weekend.

Big ugly Saab does about 27 I think.
RX7 works out to be about 9 once you take into account the cost of the 2 stroke. Probably much less when you look at what else you have to replace pretty much every fill up like oil, filter and Apex Seals.

Mine's all over the shop, it's still relatively new (to me) and I'm obsessive.

One a long run without bikes on the roof and in Eco mode it'll do 55+ mpg no bother.

just below 40mpg on my usually daily stuff.

Like it's owner, it doesn't like cold mornings, for reasons unknown from Cardiff to Cwmcarn it'll do 30mpg (with bikes on the roof) but over 40 on the way back, it doesn't seem to be meaningfully more up hill one way than the other.

In sports, not driving like a nutter, but sort of quicker normal, it'll get into the low 20s.

2010 2.2 Diesel Honda Civic : 55mpg over the last year
Commute once per week up and back down the M6 from Northants to Stoke. Interestingly, prior to the 50mph average speed limits around Birmingham/Staffordshire i was getting 50-51mpg.
Every cloud ...

This sounds interesting...more interesting than a 50mpg yawn barge anyway.

now we need clues as to what it is...

Mate had an old 5.3L V12 Jaguar XJS that did figures like that...

If that's modern it must be big....Aston V12?

your had a hearing test recently ? lease is the contract you signed rent is the payment under the terms of the lease.

Ergo you are renting your car - you dont own it.

hence when you hadn it back at the end of the contract all that lovely info your car has uploaded will allow them to see if its been thrashed or not. quite clever of VW.

I don’t lease the car from VW, the lease company don’t have access to the information. Not so clever now.

if you choose to believe that as owners of the car they cant get access to that info well you continue to believe that.

Genuine Q – why do people track it?

I don't, I usually have the display showing the range, but every now and then I flick it fuel consumption just to see what it says. It's pretty much always in the same region. Unless on trips to the Alps where it gets up to about 46/47 fully laden.

2014/vw passatt estate, 2.0 crd bluetech. Average in the mid 40s, seen 59 on a long motorway drive. Cannot fault the car

Around twenty mpg with a few tonnes of sap heavy Beech, 30 mpg on a run sans trailer.

I’ve seen 54mpg in my V70 at a steady 60 on the A9, but 45 is more realistic. Both cars have over 200,000 miles on their clocks, that’s a lot of fuel

V40 T2 about 33 on the stop/start 7 mile commute, couple more during half term in lighter traffic.

M'way journeys get around 55+

19 on LPG. Petrol I don't really know- it only runs on petrol on cold starts, if I'm dicking about, or if I've run out of LPG so it never really does a tank. Mid 20s probably.

Focus ST170 27-33mpg, Discovery Sport 29-37mpg, both depending on where I'm driving. Meh.

Genuine Q – why do people track it?

It's as good entertainment as any on long drives... and I usually do longer drives.
It's a bit interactive .. I'll reset before the run then try and hit a target.
and as a result keeps my speed down....
