How about some Harry Nilson

Technically I guess the drums are first and it's very short but its a great little riff and its nice a present in the mix right through the song.

And also has someone said NIB. Might even have been me!

Technically not an outstanding bass intro Iโ€™m guessing that former session bassist Scott Walker is the one riffing away.

Iโ€™m pretty sure the intro was recorded with a regular 6 string guitar and the โ€˜dusty endโ€™ of a bass guitar (both heavily distorted).

Damn, how could I have forgotten Psycho Killer! I saw them on that tour, as well, supported by Dire Straits. Chris Franz and Tina Weymouth are one of the great rhythm sections.

I donโ€™t think this has been posted yet, it popped up on shuffle this morning prompting a certain amount of head banging while trying to do despatch checks on cars. I remember watching the video on a late-night MTV programme and it just blew me away.
Incredible band and amazing musicians.

I'm very much enjoying the Wedding Present's latest, proper quiet / loud / quiet building to a frantic wahwah guitar attack, and with a cute little bass intro / motif throughout. And Melanie on Ah Ah Ah's as well.

Surely I've just missed it and someone nominated Ace of Spades early on? If not, then that.

If that's already in, then Mountain Song by Jane's Addiction.

It's probably been mentioned before
Don't give up by Peter Gabriel and Kate Bush or for a great bass all throughout do I do by Stevie Wonder

Just churning out some CAD and this came on, sadly the only stereo in my household that can do it justice is the car stereo and there's usually a 4 year old in the back seat... 😂

Not sure if it's already been posted...

Although playing it I realised the great bass intro doesn't actually kick in until about 15s in...

@fingerbang. Some great choices - we obviously love some of the same bands and songs.

Lots of other amazing suggestions from previous posters too - but this was what first came into my mind.

Couldn't see whether we'd had this one before. Breeders - Cannonball:

And I know it's cheesy pop, but pretty much any Duran Duran song is worth listening to the bass track alone. And Frankie Goes To Hollywood live showcases Mark O'Toole's lovely bass playing:
