Someone I work with is behaving atrociously. WWSTD

[#13369819]

This person:

  • Flat out denies responsibility for a lot of their contractual obligations
  • Does the bare minimum to fulfil the letter of those obligations when they do do something
  • Directs complaints for their failings towards us
  • Fail to help out even when asked directly
  • Takes more and more money from us every year
  • Feigns ignorance and becomes aggressively defensive when challenged about these issues
  • Looks for any flimsy excuse to get out of their contractual obligations.

WWST?

A follow up post will reveal more in due course.

A quiet word in their ear to say their behaviour has been noticed and others are grumbling about it, leaving you no choice but to escalate unless its immediately remedied.

That is, if you care about or are responsible the issues, it’s impact on others and aren’t merely envious of the fact they are getting away with it and your aren’t.  In which case, mind your business.

I'm assuming you have the frozen sausages already. Is this going to be one of these posts where it turns out it's a pet dog? Or Israel? Or Starmer?

edit

This is going to be about the government/NHS I reckon.

Oh yeah, this.

Is it the cleaning lady? If not then you need to get together and tell it like it is. I walked out of my very first job after 6 years, due to one person doing sweet FA and getting paid more than anyone else.

What's the dynamic here, are you their manager, are they a contractor, are they a third party supplier?

They're a fellow professional, with contractor status with professional obligations.

Contractor? Tell them not to come in next week (after sorting a replacement Locum.). They sound like a total waste of space.

Are you a contractor too?

Flippin legal minefield.

I can see that you have a grievance if they complain about you the hand that pays. But do you have a legal right to complain about them?

Doesn’t the company have a formal way of dealing with this? Mine does, and it’s an arms length government agency.

1. Set performance targets

2. review after n months

3. If the targets are not met, put them on a performance review.

4. Repeat 3 times

5. sack them.
