[Closed] So you own a small retail business...

...of 3 employees and a 4th in the summer. Early in January, when the first summer holiday request comes in, you pin up a wall-planner and tell your staff that there are certain periods in the year that they can't take holidays (you don't explain why, but it's obvious that it's because you want the time off). Those periods total 9 weeks and include 1 August - 14 September. Are you a ****?

Other people's children are like other people's dogs - noisy, messy and you have no control over them. Why go on holiday at the most expensive time of year and share the plane/hotel/pool with the little [s] bug[/s] darlings if you don't have to?

No they can't there are laws to protect employees. And unless there is something in the employment contract they cannot prevent holidays being taken.
