Personally, I will take the tax cut

it won’t be a tax cut for the little people…

I would even give my vote to Keir Starmer (Labour) for him to mess up the economy further if he wishes to! LOL! I want to ride the unicorn! LOL!

TBH I think it’ll be the unicorn doing the riding and that horns going to be unlubed for the little people.

Are these things worth doing, not where is the money coming from?

If the judgement is that it’s worth doing for the benefit of the citizens and the decision is not made we need to start pointing out that the decision-maker is not working in our best interests.

That’s the thing I found weird with Boris J, the 40 new hospitals would have been really good(well apart from having no staff) and the hs2 for the north but they had no real desire to actually deliver which made no sense.

Well yes aside from the minor detail it didnt actually mean that. It just meant, mostly, refurbs or an extra wing.
Even if we had an extra 40 what would the actual value be?
One issue we face is what are those hospitals doing? More A&E could add a lot but if those extra hospitals are trying advanced heart surgery sadly it makes more sense for one or two hospitals to be really, really good at it and need people to travel than ten be okay at it (this would depend on how quickly people go downhill and hence be a medical rather than political evaluation).

Especially the really little people who don't really pay much tax anyway so even if they paid zero tax it would not help them massively/at all.

A better thing for the very little people would be removing VAT on essentials (energy, basic foods etc,.) offset by increasing VAT on high priced non essentials while keeping it at current rate for everything else.

Unfortunately the tory way would be to do exactly the opposite of that.

More red meat to satisfy the stone-hearted appetites of the rich, elderly racists that constitute 'the membership'

Rishi Sunak and Liz Truss promise big expansion of Rwanda asylum scheme

It's quite the idealogical journey that Lizzie has been on, isn't it? From the Lib Dems, via the remain campaign to promising to deport lots of desperate children to Africa.

It staggers me that anyone would trust someone who'd managed to walk that particular road in such an unconcerned manner, purely because it provided the vehicle presently best suited to their own advancement.

A moral vacuum, exactly the same as the present occupier of number 10

That woman is dangerous - she cannot possibly be thinking of this stuff herself so who, behind the scenes, is pulling the strings? Although, like most Tories, she's just a shameless opportunist, willing to change principles at the drop of a hat if it gets her elected.

It'd be a load cheaper to just move the asylum seekers / refugees / immigrant scum* around the UK a bit and bung them the £100m. Could solve levelling up at the same time. Here you go, have a potential cheap labour force moving in along with a load of money to improve services.

*delete according to your principles

Just another 5 weeks to go till the council of elders pass their judgement.

Just thinking that no one under the age of 24 had a say in this Brexit thing that isn't done yet.

This annointment of a leader, like Brexit itself feels like the execution of a will. I can't think of better example of a nations future being decided by those who are either dead, or about to die.

A good summary of her by Andrew Rawnsley in the Observer today

Liz Truss reminds me of a Tory leader but it’s not Margaret Thatcher

Basically, she’s just a slightly shitter female Johnson. Another self-serving opportunist hitching herself to populist nonsense to get the top job. That’s literally all she cares about. Totally devoid of substance. A third race Thatcher tribute act

Erg / Britannia unchained goons

An unnamed Tory MP refers to her this

“She is the adoptive child of the ERG [European Research Group] and all the other batshit groups on the right of the party,”

Whatever outrageous promises these two are making to the unrepresentative fossils whose votes they are dependent on are not binding on their behaviour once in Downing Street...

...or are they?

Why wouldnt she be capable of doing so? It isnt exactly difficult to look up what would get the tory members excited and hence pitch to them.

The candidates seem to be working their way through the checklist, let's see who completes it first.

Watching BBC News and seeing what the right wing press is saying, they really, really want Truss in.

Theyre peddling the whole Thatcher 2.0 bollocks and absolutely savaging Rishi

If Murdoch and co want you in…..

As soon as truss is annointed her multiple promises/commitments will be dropped as they were nothing than the means to get her elected.
That's all that matters.
She and sunak are both vomit inducing.
He won't win because he isn't channeling thatcher - and he's the wrong colour.

It's the party, (elected MP's) vs the membership. As much as we are about to have Liz Truss foisted upon us, she is also being foisted upon them.

I see a very un-civil war breaking out in the Tory party, I can't see her managing her own party with any authority at all. I think for the most part they see Sunak as the only hope of winning the next General election.

Watching something yesterday where the tory members apparently weighed up who was most likely to win an election for them than whether they agreed most with the candidate. David Davis was seen as a better tory (i.e. more right wing) but they chose Cameron as he was seen as better chance of winning an election.

^^^

But that was before daft nationalist-populist posturing was shown to be a winning ticket amongst the electorate at large.

I do like that NF leaflet, what’s the only missing policies so far phased repatriation and capital punishment.

Really weird how they talk against dictatorship but all their policy’s are geared towards that.

So, there's another televised debate tonight

Another one I won't be watching a I know it'll just wind me up and at the end of the day none of us have a dog in this fight

I'm finding it incredibly annoying that this is receiving all this media coverage (well it is who gets to be PM after all), yet with a prime time TV debate tonight, the only viewers that matter are those 160,000 Tory party members. The rest of us are completely irrelevant.

Its just emphasising, as if it needed to, how farcical and completely undemocratic this whole charade is

I'm guessing phased repatriation is the only one off the menu, although the 'hostile environment' and Windrush was as close as it gets to the same thing for the latest generation of migrants.

Priti Patel recently refused to roll back her previous comments supporting the death penalty, and I'm guessing it's possible she'll be back as HS whoever wins.

I rather assumed that was the point of her not running.

in that respect Sunak makes far more sense, but I think it illustrates the UKIPisation of the Tory party that Truss is now the favourite
That said I could see her doing less well the more exposure she gets, especially if those scandals get leaked

The way the rhetoric is being steadily ratcheted up to appeal to the hang'em'and'flog'em brigade, I'd say that within a week we'll have both candidates promising to re-introduce the death penalty. Probably for any crime more serious than shoplifting

was anyone else treated to the conservative party member on the radio early this morning, pushing to have Boris in the poll with Sunak and Truss because.....

Theres a good person to watch on Youtube called 'A Different Bias' who was talking about Truss today (or maybe yesterday). She seems to have taken her entire policy on one black sheep economist who nobody else agrees with, and then only cherry picked the nice bits out of his work and forgotten to mention the 'oh, and interest rates will need to be 8%+ for it to work' bit he also mentioned. I can't believe people are already talking about giving her a year to watch her plans collapse then the next Tory civil war (and possibly Sunak waiting in the wings to take over). This is genuienely despressing if so.

She's BJ mark 2, literally saying whatever will get her progressed for the next week. and repeat even more crazy stuff the following week.

So far Liz truss just seems incompetent, Rishi seems to be going for the if I shout louder then her I'll win.......

Glad I'm not a conservative party member having to choose between these two. Absolute dregs of the party.

Might backfire

Absolute dregs of the party.

Dear god, this is beyond awful.

They’re really convincing in pretending they give a flying **** about places like Stoke. I bet neither of them knew where it was until their ministerial cars dropped them there.

Rishi’s ‘Man of the People’ act is looking particularly laughable, but they’re both re-writing their own back-stories (as well as the last 12 years of Tory government) by the minute.

binners, you said you weren't going to watch but...
I've avoided this shitshow as it's
two thoroughly unpalatable candidates, lying through their teeth, making a sales pitch to an electorate of no more than 200k.
Is this the best the tories have to offer?
Let me guess - johnson is/was exceptional, got brexit done, stood up to putin, led the covid response magnificently.
Nothing other than a complete bag of bollocks.
Yuck.

In Sunak's world, the border between England and the Frozen North is somewhere south of darlington. More experimentation is needed to find out exactly where Sunak's Wall lies

Why does Truss keep banging on about her terrible education. I grew up in Leeds at the same time as her (I'm a couple of years older) and as far as I was aware her school was pretty good, much betterer than mine and some of the others in the area. I suppose when everyone around you at work went to Eton, Harrow and Winchester any normal education will seem crap in comparison

I've just messaged one of my mates from Uni who was at the school the same time as her to see what he feels about her slagging off the school. He hasn't answered yet as he's now the CFO of some massive company in NZ. He grew up with a father dying of MS and he's done alright plus she got into Oxford from there it couldn't have been that bad. Now if she gone to Parklands she'd have a point.

The school she went to is just round the corner from where I used to live in Leeds. It has an 'outstanding' rating from Ofstead. Who does she think she's kidding?
