Kinda ๐Ÿ˜€

When we say engaged.. We're engaged to celebrate our relationship in a formal way, making a public declaration of our happiness and our plans to spend the rest of our lives together, celebrating it in a non-religious way.. Our way  We're going to say some vows, exchange rings and then have a massive party with all our family and friends. No dress code, no wedding presents (maybe charity donations if people want to give something) and most importantly to us both....

No paying somebody for a written contract saying we're married, "HANG THE HELL ON!" I hear you say, "you're not getting married then are you? How can you even say you're engaged?!"... Well let me try to explain: proving to other people how we feel has always been something we've never felt the need to do, Becca's family are very traditional and have always seen us as not a serious relationship, despite us living together and having been together for longer than most people we know who are married, including our parents. Not to say we wont do the legal bit at some point in the future if we think it would benefit us financially or legally (if one of us got ill for example) but when it comes down to it we've known we want to spend the rest of our lives together for a long time, no piece of paper could make those feelings stronger so we're in no rush to pay for a piece of paper at the moment ๐Ÿ™‚

We're buzzing, hearts racing at a million miles an hour and we can't stop grinning.

Happy times!

Congratulations ๐Ÿ˜€

My one small piece of advice is... if you ever decide to move countries for work etc then that piece of paper becomes much more useful.....just something to keep in mind.

including our parents.

You have the same parents!! ๐Ÿ˜ฏ

More seriously congrats and I applaude your values, can you get a civil partnership or is that only for same sex couples?

thank you ๐Ÿ™‚ in that situation we'd pop down the registry office and get something signed!

EDIT: ^moving abroad that is.

Emma the valentines 'celebration' when i arrived home from work was enough to convince me i was onto a good thing ๐Ÿ˜‰

Marriage is over rated commitment to somebody else is highly rated and recommended. Whether it's a church or something else just make, and keep the commitment and have a great time! Congrats to you both.

As for advice, it doesn't matter, you will argue and fall out, what matters is how you make up each time.

Hey Phil - congrats to both you and Becca. 8) Also kudos for doing exactly what you both want, rather than pleasing your respective rellies.

Dare I ask if Sammie-Louise will be Chief Bridesmaid? ๐Ÿ˜‰

We're buzzing, hearts racing at a million miles an hour and we can't stop grinning.

Most people just have a quiet drink to celebrate.....

Congratulations to the both of you, may you have a long and truly happy life together.
The wedding thing doesn't have to be formal, my brother and sister-in-law had a registry office wedding, followed by a blessing by an RAF minister at their bike club. The ladies at the registry office said it was one of the most relaxed weddings they could remember.
Jon and Tess just after the actual wedding:

Tess is a witch, BTW.
And an anaesthetist; which could come in handy... ๐Ÿ˜€

Some friends of mine held a "celebration of significant committment". Then quietly signed the papers a few years later. They wanted to marry but it had implications for his student grant(NZ not UK). Was all a bit barf up a lung, has to be said. But good for you !

no issues like student visas or anything that would stop us doing the legal bit, we figured we'd save the money that would be spent on a certificate and put it towards a holiday together.

Phil.

Congrats on deciding to make a statement of committment.

Sorting out legal estates and next of kin, can all come later.

You're both young and in love.

Carry On !.

Congratulations, you do realise you're now condemned to massively sickeningly sloppy Valentine's days from here to eternity, right?
