[#10226044]

Had the requirement to park my minibus (long WB Merc) at Morrisons in Harrogate yesterday while I waited 20 mins for a passenger coming out. The only space I could spot to park was next to another car, & bearing in mind I wasn't leaving the bus cos I was doing some paperwork.

This bloke comes up & starts ranting how I was 3" off his car, how was he going to get in etc etc.

What do you reckon? (ignore the paint I daubed on his reg plate)

PS, when I 1st parked the side door was closed & the step was in.

Is his drivers door broke thus necessitating the use of the passenger door? If not, a swift **** off should suffice.

That's Morrisons for you, you should've gone to waitrose.

Nowt wrang wi that. If he’d parked within the lines like you there’d be plenty space. Is it LHD, did he even have a passenger?

Perhaps he should have parked within his space rather than on top of the separating line.

I think you should have opened his drivers door for him and said here you go whilst wearing a big cheesy grin.

( unless of course wrigtyson got it right above)

Its a bit like the bellends that reverse into supermarket spaces then moan they can't open the boot because you are parked too close to their rear

There's plenty of room with your sliding door shut.

The bloke's a muppet, I use that car park quite often and there's some shocking parking.  If he could park properly in the first place there wouldn't be an issue.

Lol.... it’s  in Harrogate

cocks will be cocks and there are plenty of them in this town ....

I’ve  lived here 30 + years, and still get surprised by the attitudes of some drivers, though I don’t know why

You've even had the decency to park at the pc world/leper colony end of the car park.

If he weren't trying to get the car to be simultaneously a pace or two from both Morrison's and currys he'd have been fine.

(Fairly unrelated Edit - I'd always assumed yours was the Lord taverners asoc bus for some reason, no idea why)

Was the gentleman very portly it's a bit of a narrow gap on the driver's side?

He’s quite clearly parked badly. And again, which side is he trying to get into?

I parked too close (nose to nose) to a woman in B&q once, I was about 1cm away

She waited till I came out & got all ranty, didn't help that I started laughing.

Some people are just amazingly precious about their cars !

I like that they have specially designated Chelsea tractor spaces indicated by the use of two yellow lines spaced about 4 inches apart.

"Some people are just amazingly precious about their cars !"

This I don't have an issue with. Bent cars cost people money. I'm expected to turn up in a smart looking car when visiting clients. If someone who doesn't give a monkeys and leaves a belting great scrape down the side it costs me time and money as I can't just ignore it.

If it was a lease car or PCP it can't be ignored either.

The OP has done nothing wrong and the woman reacting to you was clearly ott.

BUT it's not unreasonable for people to expect an appropriate degree of consideration for their expensive property.

Fully agree but IME those same people have a significant (but far from complete and exclusive) overlap with people who have zero consideration for other people when it comes to that same piece of expensive property. See the above photo, park 5 ft from the bmw so it won't scratch their car, sod anyone who may want to use the adjacent space.

He's actually parked with his wheels ON a white line.

Seems like anyone who parked next to him on that side was going to appear to be very close just because of that.

Nothing wrong with wanting to look after your property, but you can't be in that camp and then park like that.

Jeeze, the blokes a nob. Clearly he can see you are a community service vehicle that is obviously for people who require assistance or assisted help to get in/out of it.

Frankly I would be inclined to point out to him that a) he parks correctly and b) he may need the services you provide in the future and should be greatful that you are there to provide them.

I agree with garage dweller ..I don't like car park damage to my car either ..

That said ..from the pics above I would have told the bloke to go fk himself ..ample room on the drivers side ..it's a bog standard Civic ..so right hand drive ..If he did happen to have a front seat passenger he could easily pull forward a few ft.to let them in ..

In conclusion : a complete knob .

Due to ****womble Civic's quality parking, any vehicle parked where you were would have been close to his car!

I don't judge if someone is parked that far over, unless I see them do it. For all you know ,when he parked, the car on the other side may have been parked further over ,thus making him park further over. I'll happily park close to a passenger side of a car if needs be, but I'll give as much room as I can for a driver. As said above,  just need to pull forward a bit for the passenger

Well It's nice to see that no-one's had a go at me for my parking of a 7.4mtr bus!

I even said to him, 'I'm staying with the bus so you I can move forwards when you want to be in', he ranted & raved a bit more so I moved forward into the access lane so he could get in the passenger side.....then he wandered off to Morrisons! he didn't even need to be in the car at that point.

Divvy.

(Fairly unrelated Edit – I’d always assumed yours was the Lord taverners asoc bus for some reason, no idea why)

That's the Forest School bus, I drive the white council ones. 🙂

I am.  I had to work hard to pay for my car, it's nothing special but I'd very much like for it to remain dent/scratch free nevertheless.

If someone else thinks otherwise and bumps into my car while parking I'd be right royally pissed off.

If people are that precious about their car they should leave it in a garage with dust sheets over it, and get groceries delivered.  That way it will be safe, and you can wander past and rub yourself against it in private any time you need.

I can't be the only one who deliberately parks next to people who take up two spaces...

Helps if your car is a bit, err, cosmetically challenged, then you don't need to worry about someone denting your door trying to get in.

Totally agree guy is out of order but not so sure about the 'precious' comments.

Some arsehole just dented my 15 year old car in a car park (and no it wasn't parked 3 cm away from another car :)) and to be honest I'm not overly impressed!

No doubt they justified it by thinking it's an old car and the owner shouldn't be overly precious about it.

It is only a car but I'd managed to not dent it in 15 years so I don't see why somebody else should think it was ok.

I put them in the same category of folk who think it is ok to leave litter in the fells.

TBF a lot of cars do it automatically when you lock them nowadays.

Apart from that he's a donki's knob.

Neither would I if there'd been somewhere more convenient where the bus would fit. I need 2 bays length to park it & I couldn't see any others.

As Iv'e said, I was staying with the bus, so no problems moving if he'd needed access, which he didn't.

BUT it’s not unreasonable for people to expect an appropriate degree of consideration for their expensive property.

But but but, this is a thread about parking ‘too close’, not about damage. Different things, you can park two foot away and still be an inconsiderate door swinging nobhead. And as for the other poster who parked ‘too close’ nose to nose, I’ve been on the receiving end of a gobful for similar and can’t get my head around it; unless you’ve blocked someone in it literally doesn’t matter, surely?

I agree but at the same time there's an obligation on property owners to use their property sensibly/responsibly. I was once accosted on my way to work by someone because I'd walked too close to his car (specifically my shoulder bag was a bit close). I informed him that if he was that bothered about his paintwork he shouldn't have parked his car so that it blocked half of the pavement… 😛

I was beeped at a few years ago because I jogged across the road too close behind a moving car. 😂
