Now you see the 'one won't hurt' tag up there? That was written by someone less awesome than you guys. The person who wrote it is jealous and wants to see you fail to justify their weakness. Believe in yourselves. You are all AWESOME, from one who knows. ๐Ÿ˜‰

After 24hrs you've experienced most of the habitual smokes and survived, the first one of the day, the coffees, work etc, so tomorrow will be easier. Respect.

Well nobody's tagged me as Awesome have they!

I tell you what's not Awesome... not getting a dispatch note for my new frame.

I feel the same about smoking as I did pre my Xmas indulgence. I'm just here to cheer on the others...

How are our quitters today?

Your breath should be a whole lot nicer. It might not feel like it, but your body is breathing a little easier and food should already be tasting better. Energy levels should be increasing.

AWESOME ๐Ÿ™‚

Come on quitters, where are you?

I'm doing a big tidy up round the house this morning... found 4 packs of Rizzla, almost put them in my paraphernalia box... they're now in the bin covered in food waste.

Also... if you're as obsessive about things as me, spend this weeks ciggy money on a blood pressure monitor and enjoy watching your vital stats improve over the coming months 8)

I had a cigar and couple of Marlboro over christmas, just to see what it's like. Pleasant enough but didn't see the point in spending money on it and losing health and stinking like an ashtray.

Go on quitters, you can be ex smokers, just think about the self-esteem boost you'd get turning down Cheryl Cole...

Afternoon all

You'll be pleased to hear I'm doing worryingly well. Had a few beers last night but didn't go out. Had the urge but not that strongly.

This morning I walked down to the shop to get the papers. Now normally this is my cue for 'first cig of the day'. However; I got to the newsagent and thought 'I wonder why I've not thought about the first fag of the day?'. So I'm more intrigued as to why I'm not finding it harder.

Its early days yet, but that bodes very well indeed ๐Ÿ™‚

The urge for nicotine is strongest just after you finish a ciggy, so the longer you are without, the lower the desire to smoke. That's the physical addiction finished now, the rest is just mental.
Be happy, you are now without any physical addiction. ๐Ÿ˜†

Awesome Binners. By tomorrow night you'll have overcome the physical dependency, after that point it's just a habitual or stress trigger that'll drive you to smoke.

And it sounds like you're doing well with the habitual side of addiction...

I'm thinking of joining you on Monday - hmmmm, decisions, decisions.

Go for it!

At least give it a decent try as it giving up smoking is not always something you will succeed at first time around. I reckon I must have tried to give up around 20 times before now.

Keep logged into here and posting as you will get plenty of support ๐Ÿ™‚

Here's what I've done as an incentive to myself. I've gone and bought a nice watch and I've told the Mrs if she catches me smoking she can take it and put it on ebay.
Although my main incentive is being healthy enough to see my children grow up.
Best of luck to everyone who's quitting

Not smoked now for 4 1/2 years, feel better and all the money that I would have spent has go on my bikes/equipment, it was probably cheaper smoking TBH but mountain bikes are way more fun.

Morning fag fans.

Who else has made it through the weekend smoke free? If you've got this far you've made it through the toughest 3 days, if you indulged... Monday is the best day for qutting!

Well we know that sadly, one of our quitters has fallen off the wagon, albeit temporarily I'm sure ๐Ÿ™‚

Afternoon all

Right! Firstly: I confess. I lapsed yesterday. But this isn't playing out as planned at all. In order that I wasn't tempted I decided to avoid having a beer. So I've had a booze free weekend. The first in a very long time.

I did however find a packet of fags in my glove compartment yesterday and I relapsed, almost unthinkingly (i get very stressed watching united games). However; I'm not giving up giving up. I'm back on the wagon again this morning. I'm getting there! I'm back to commuting on the bike so hope to see my fitness improve if I stay off both the beer and the fags

I survived all weekend without a single smoke, but oh my holey Jeebus it was hard going! And I ate just about everything I had in the kitchen.

So my initial plan to lose the mince pie belly gained over Xmas has taken a back seat, but I reckon there's much more benefit from stopping smoking than from stopping snacking.

Well done to those who avoided the dreaded weed!

As to those who have succumbed, well keep trying, it is hard work but worth it ๐Ÿ™‚

For those just starting out I found that the money I spent on nicotine gum was an additional insentive, and in someway symbolic of renewed effort and change of mindset.

Binners - think about how many you've not smoked over the weekend as you go through the process of quitting rather than the minor slip up.

Also Binners (not forgetting the fact I smoked for a couple of weeks over the festive period), on one of my quitting occasions...

2 days in went and filled up with petrol for the first time since quitting and realised I hadn't even thought of buying any, 'cor this quitting lark is easy. I can't really have been addicted' I thought to myself. Somehow this turned into justification to stop at the next garage and buy some baccy etc. ๐Ÿ˜ณ

Such blips should help you strengthen your resolve. The little B******* nicotine monster in your mind is a cunning little fella.

3 days now for me. Daytimes are not so bad but the evenings are not so good.....and getting to sleep is a pain, and once a sleep I sweat like mad - does this happen to anyone else?

The first time I tried to quit had crazy 'night sweats', as it's not heat related I took to wearing T shirt and pj bottoms to bed as they're easier to change half way through the night than sheets are! ๐Ÿ˜ฏ

As you've made it through 3 days this should start to subside. Keep it up!

....I'm not the only one. Tonight will be a struggle, thursday night is student night and I've retained my student habits exceedingly well for the last 10 years.

this thread is actually making a tad easier which is good. Ta for encouragement and good luck to everyone else.

Its not good news folks. I've been lapsed a bit. Not smoking during the day, but have been resorting to the odd one in the evening. I can kind of live with this though as its a considerable (actually.... massive) improvement on the Status quo. I'm going to have a last one tonight, then its cold turkey (literally by the sound of the night sweats) from there on in

And... Well done you lot. I feel both impressed and suitably ashamed

Can't remember if I've mentioned already but go easy on the caffeine whilst quitting. Nicotine effects the way you metabolise caffeine so when you quit all of sudden those black coffees will hit you a lot harder... day sweats!

Keep up the good work people.

Remember that you did not become a smoker overnight, you had one or two, then a few more and this will have happened over a period of time. As a result I reckon it also takes a lot of time to become an ex-smoker and quit because you have a lot of unlearning to do and it will not happen overnight.

Personally I prefer the stick method to the carrot, so sort yourselves out yer pansies and quit like a manly man would!

binners, keep at it but don't feel like its a mountain. If you really must have one- have one. Then start again with a view to stretching the days without one extra day next time.

It took me ages of failed quiting before I got the hang of it. Its the mindset, as soon as you starting thinking 'I actually don't like smoking' - then your halfway there.

If you still think 'I really enjoy smoking'- your not ready

So so true. I struggled and failed several times until I reached the thought that I really didn't want to smoke rather than I shouldn't smoke because of x,y and z

Once I realised this I gave up overnight... it's an odd one.

Agreed.

Hating everything about smoking and disliking myself for smoking made it much easier to stop.

If you've fallen off the wagon, don't worry, give it another go. Have a little think about what caused you to fall off, a bit of stress, habit or boredom and then see if the ciggy actually helped in solving the problem, made you less bored or made the coffee taste any better. Probably not. ๐Ÿ˜€

A couple of days off the wagon is nothing when you consider what you're about to gain.

Keep it up chaps and chapesses.

I felt a bit tempted yesterday when I was bored with nothing to do for a few hours. I scoffed about half a pound of quality street instead.
Not sure which is worse?

About time I chipped in.

Not had one since the wee small hours of new years day. Never have a problem with not smoking but the true test will come when I go out on the ale at the end of the month.

Beer is just not the same without a tab. ๐Ÿ™

On the plus side riding is much better without. ๐Ÿ˜€
