Vrs is superb. Just wrote a review but iPad crashed. It's blooming brilliant.
Huge boot, winter tyres for six months. Economy not so good but it's an absolute hoot to drive. Little things like the adaptive headlights make everything easier.
Drive one, I doubt you'll be disappointed.

Will be the diesel as its company car and manual so the C02 is reasonable at 119 !! Test drove the hatchback and was impressed but have friends who say they have a very harsh ride quality which can't say I noticed !! Currently drive a Volvo v40 R-design which is more harsh I think

Depends what you want really on what engine you would get in the scout.

The VRS is a pretend sports car ie all the trimmings, without the actual ability. Ie looks nice, rapid, but not really a drivers car.

Scout do you need 4x4?

Funky, have you driven one? It's not a ferrari but for a reasonable size family car with a huge boot, comfort, practicality and cheap insurance it's brilliant. It's very quick, it corners incredibly well and puts a smile on my face every time I drive it. I drove the diesel on a test drive then have the petrol.
If you haven't driven one how do you know what you're talking about, if you have driven one what sports car are you comparing it to?

Yep driven diesel VRS. Got a BMW 3 series diesel instead which is slower, but way better to drive through corners, but doesn't have go faster bucket seats, or painted brake calipers etc etc.

VRS isn't a bad car, it's just not really a refined drivers car

Another here with a petrol vRS estate, great car, it's growing on me since I've had it ๐Ÿ˜€
So far, really pleased with it. Try and get the panoramic sunroof, it makes the interior so much lighter and also your wallet ๐Ÿ˜€

Yes, got a diesel VRS. For context, I think it's about the 25th car we've owned now - bit of a petrol head, so over the years, have had RWD, FWD and AWD in various levels of 'sportiness'. When I got the VRS, I was looking at 2nd hand Golf GTI's, but at the time could get a VRS estate with all the nice extras for same price as a used Golf. I'd agree that the handling of the VRS isn't as good as some RWD cars, but for a FWD, it's pretty good (&every close to the Golf GTI). The Diesel engine has mountains of torque and is very brisk in the gears - I'm also getting between 45-54mpg on general mixed driving. We drove to Italy in it last year, and were pleasantly surprised by the comfort - better than some cars we've had that have cost almost double! (Oh, and it's brilliant on the unrestricted autobahns ๐Ÿ˜€ )

Have you looked at the Elegance trim? A few more goodies as standard over the vRS, and quite a few are available as 1 year olds on Skoda Used. They tend to have done about 10-14k motorway miles as reps cars then get sold on. Drops about 7k of the new car price.

I just got a 1.6TDi and it's pokey enough for me, zero VED too at 99g/km, amazing for such a big car. Your benefit in kind will be pretty low on that I'd have thought.

I have driven both the 184 tdi VRS and the 4x4 150 Tdi in elegance spec.. The 4x4 was definitely more refined but noticably slower through the gears, but sharp take offs from stationary were much better with the four wheel drive.
I have sat in a Scout 184 but not driven it, partly because they only come with DSG of which I am not a fan.

Petrol VRS estate owner here, it ticks a lot of boxes. Personally I didn't like the diesel though.

Bags of space, comfortable, not fast but quick enough - a map and a few other little bits and you'll see 250+bhp, 30mpg average and sounds better than most diesels. Could do with a proper dif but handles quite adequately for a road car.

Rubbish. I drove a lot of BMWs before buying the Skoda, liked the 330d but the found the 320d dull and overpriced for what you got (the e90 even more so than the e46). In reality there isn't that much difference in handling especially as modern family estates go.

Are you trying to tell us that a 3 series is a refined drivers car?

Diesel VRS Octarvia estate driver here and of all my 20 years of company cars it's they one I'd ask for again.
Great motorway acceleration when you knock it down a gear or two.

Currently 45.6 average mpg and I've a heavy right foot.

I have the mk 3 petrol vRS estate, had it since last June, done 10k mls and I am not disappointed. Averages 31mpg on the commute and up to 38 on a run but I didn't buy it for the economy! the performance is enough for me. That sound generator in vRS mode gets a wee bit tiring, I find the muted growl from the engine in normal mode enough. Had the mk 2 vRS estate diesel as a company car and that had impressive performance and set me up for more Skoda ownership. Great cars for the price even nowadays.

The sound generator can be silenced with vcds, or just unplugged.

7k miles into a tsi vrs hatch I average 36.5 mpg and enjoy the car.
