Cold and dark outside and peeing down, wind blowing my soul away, its time to get the OS maps out. Just planning a dales trip, seen a couple of silly place names. The MTB oriented "Smear Bottom Lane"(a warning to be ridden on dry days only!. And the, ahem, onanisticly titled "Tossit well"!!! Cheered me up, anybody any other crackers?
NB; Both on Yorkshire Dales south and west 1:25000. Grids SE924641 and 961586 respectively.

when riding from London to Munich back in 2003 (that really crazy hot summer!) i took a 30km detour so that i could go to the Bavarian town of ****.

in fact, there are several mountains called ****, too...
where i used to live in northern Bavaria there were two town next to each other called Busendorf (tit-village) and Poppendorf (shag-village). that always raised a smile.

passed through a town called Schnelldorf a few weeks back. quite ironic as we were on an ICE train at the time. (Schnelldorf - Quick-village. ICE trains are the equivalent of the French TGVs).

There's a village near Londonderry called Muff. And just past the main road is the back road to Muff. A much tougher ride apparently..

Near where I work we have "Randy Bell End".

There are two competitions

1) When giving walkers directions advise them to "climb on to Randy Bell End and work your way along it" without cracking up laughing

2) If heading in that direction on bike or on foot return to the pub afterwards and say "Good going on Randy Bell End today" or similar

Keeps us entertained for most of the year. ๐Ÿ˜†

Is that the 'Bell end' near Santa Pod raceway? Been there a few times and a mate of mine wanted to stop off once just to have his picture taken next to the sign ๐Ÿ˜†

I've eaten in Pant. The Cross Keys, if memory serves.

There's a village near Londonderry called Muff.

They have a well-known diving school, I believe.

Both the Orkneys and the Shetlands have a town called ****t.

I've been to the place 6km from this junction. In fact I'll be there later this evening, probably won't be taking the back route......

If you ever go to Muff, be sure to visit the Muff Diving club.

There is also a Pantystain in Flintshire. Giggety.

[edit]

Not a town, but there is a 'Badgers rough' somewhere near me. I'll have to go one day to make sure if it is or not ๐Ÿ˜ฏ

There's some decent riding around Cocklicks, which, as we're on the subject is just round the corner from ****hats. Dumfriesshire, not far from Dalbeattie.

And in the northern isles ****t crops up in a few variations.
