It's not enough letters or I was going to say "Marillion."

That works but its not how I've heard the clue used (depends what your answer is though). That said it came up in an interview so was stated verbally rather than on the page so he may have inadvertently reversed it.

EDIT Actually no because 'equals 99' is what verifies the answer

Sorry 😳 it's possible I may have seen that before - or if not something very similar as I hit straight on how to solve it.

Is "portion" really the answer to "Large fish" - I'm still failing to get that even with all the clues. Maybe I'm missing the cultural bit.

Edit: Glenn's got it

Gegs and HIJKLMNO are pretty well known clues for their simple brilliance. As soon as I saw the thread title I was expecting it to contain those clues, and if not then I was going to post them.

I woudl argue that your answer works very well but it is not correct

To help you the

God running amok [8]
your clue is its a proper noun so capitalised

Capitalised has a meaning that will make you go DOH when you get it It is a capital [letter] to start to be clear but it has more than one meaning here.

I only got it because i had some letters in it I dont think i would have got it from the clue alone

It's a bit too straight an answer TBH

Capitalised has a meaning that will make you go DOH when you get it It is a capital [letter] to start to be clear but it has more than one meaning here.

Is the "capitalised" bit part of the original clue then?

no but i dont think it can be got without it[ as i said i had letters] - it [capital] has a double meaning in the sentence work out the other and you will have it... hopefully

Couldn't remember the good one I had last weekend so while trying remind myself I stumbled across these:

Number of fingers (9)
Bar of soap (6,6)
Flightless bird, found in Iceland (6, 7)

And a couple of minimalist ones:
O (8, 6)
(1, 6, 3, 1, 4)

Edit, just seen the last one has been done but I'll leave it in as I missed it earlier

That's the easy one 😉

Bar of soap is quite a good one IMO, its a different meaning for both words and readily accessible to non crossworders. Number of fingers is a bit more lateral, different meaning (sort of) of one word
