Tends to affect downstream like Bakewell and Darley Dale more than Buxton itself

I'll go and have a look at the river in Darley Dale later, guessing it will be getting close

Day 5 - and it's gone.

PXL_20241124_083454683

Still lots on the mountains, but even they are looking pretty stripped. The paths will take longer to clear as they'll have been compressed down to ice. I'm hoping they're clear by tomorrow evening so we can get out for a decent run.

12 hours of snow forecast overnight in Sheffield. Bring it on I say, it's years since we've seen a substantial dump anywhere near town.

Sadly it'll be washed away by the rain in time for work.

Irony…

I am well aware of the, er, 'aesthetic difficulties' in the area. I have to walk through the city centre every day.

It’s allegedly snowing here now, but it’s more like sleet. Temperature is 1°, feeling like -4°, which is about right, having spent twenty minutes or so outside sorting out the bird feeders; the hedgehogs seem to have tucked themselves away for a while, there were two hoglets tucking into their plates of food the other evening but the plates haven’t been touched since.
The birds, on the other hand, are clearing the suet pellets and calci worms by lunchtime! Second 12.5Kg suet pellet delivery in three weeks.

My father, living just outside Warrington, has just had luminous jacketed neighbour pop round checking everyone in the block has enough food, a torch and some blankets 'in case'. His flat overlooks the local Spar shop...

Seems the news is full on "don't panic" and as such some people are indeed panicking....

I fitted the Ice Spiker Pros this morning, to ensure no snow is seen here on the Ilkeston alps.

Maybe it's been stripped bare of daily essentials and everyone nearby will be forced to rediscover their hunter-gatherer roots...

Edge of the Peak District here so we've been promised 20cm or so on higher ground and "significant disruption".

So far there is nary a flake to be seen.

Weather radar shows its been snowing over us for about an hour and a half.

Not a hint of moisture, frozen or otherwise, outside in the real world.

Someone got this a bit wrong or it was a slow news day.

All of about 1cm so far and looking at radar it will pass in 1hr or so.

Few weeks back we had just under a foot of snow tat wasn’t even forecast ?

Fingers crossed for tomorrow, Peebles is forecast for snow/sleet, I've got some snow rides in this year but no snowing rides yet.

I'm just up the road in penicuik, we got the lightest of dustings over our existing snow last night so everything looks rather lovely and it's all incredibly crisp and crunchy, but also probably quite good for ankle breaking. It's hovered around 0 degrees for days so the snow from nye is mostly still there but turned to snow-looking ice. Pretty unusual weather tbh, we're right on the edge of a massive thaw but it's just barely holding together.

More importantly the snow in the 'cuik isn't good snowman snow, so day my boys.

We're scheduled snow tomorrow then sleet then snow again over night.

A good 2" or so has settled here in the F.o.D, and it's still coming down. I wonder if anything will be left in the morning with the forecast rain and temperature rise.

Still, we had a lovely wintry soak in the hot tub earlier and the dog has thoroughly enjoyed tearing around the garden with his fur full of snow flakes!

well over 6" here last time I ventured outside and still falling heavily. Bought our older sheep into the barn as it won't be a particularly nice night to sleep out!

Got 1mm on the car now. And they'd run out of big bags of cat litter in The Range earlier, no doubt because of panic buying.

It was snowing a bit when I went to pick my mate up to go to the pub in Melksham, coming back there’s a fair bit of snow settled on the roads in places, but it’s pissing down with rain and the gritters are out on all the main roads, I saw three in the space of about fifteen minutes!
Cancelled the order for snowshoes, not sure if skis or a kayak would be more appropriate. [img] [/img]

I did get a kebab before I got home, so that’s something…

Crystal clear here, been minus 4 all day. Billions of stars, Venus was bright in the sky and now there's a faint aurora to the north. Flurries of snow earlier topped up the fields around us, it's quite eery but beautiful. Every footstep is an enormous shattering crunch. This morning a hare had left it's footprints along our track and across the neighbouring fields.

The best day of the year so far

Snowing in Rammy @0330. Main road covered with steadily compacting snow. I think I'll be sensible and cycle to work.

Made it to work, gravel bike with 32c crossroads tyres. Doubled up on the gloves with mountaineering overmitts, waterproof hat and socks. Thermal cycling tights on the legs.

Oh no! Have just driven from snow covered Czech Republic through Germany that had a dusting on the higher routes. Legally everyone is on winter tyres and everything just carried on as normal.

Just got to get from Harwich to Rossendale now which could be interesting!

A cm or so down at low level, snowing reasonably heavily at the moment so hopefully a decent amount on higher ground. I'll get the MTB out once it gets light and go for a little explore.

We have snow, about 2cm but it is super wet. We put winter tyres on the car yesterday ahead of driving to the French Alps on Friday 😉

A good 5cms in West Yorks may be more, and still snowing - looking good for an interesting bike to work tomorrow morning.

20cm up here in Norf Yorkshire. The smugness I've been wearing for a week after getting winter tyres fitted to the car has evaporated as the snow is deeper than the bumper. 🙁

Snowmageddon here, I'll be letting a few others go up and down the (steep) road I live on before I try to drive anywhere!

Difficult to tell how deep it is as it's blowing, parts of the drive are clear, parts have snow drifts. It's very dry fine snow and forecast to continue until tomorrow lunch time. Pretty windy so guessing the main road over the tops will be blocked. Rossendale, East Lancs, but high up, no the valley bottom.

I'd be more worried about the Velociraptor than the snow.

We didn't get much and it's thawing fast (South Herefordshire). I reckon there will be lots on the Malverns and Black Mountains tho. Took the dogs out before the slush and they had a good time.IMG_6791

South Lanarkshire, a bit below zero and barely a fine dusting. It has added some grip to the slipperiness which was welcome on early dog walk.

Bad in Rossendale on the tops, 5 to 6 inches of snow, but hard to tell as it's drifting a lot. Had to dig the cars out of a 4ft drift. Even the main roads have snow across them. Going to be fun  getting to the airport tomorrow morning.
