I don't know what's what in the laptop world of late because the one I've been using is 10 years old.

I need something that can handle high def vid rendering and am on a bit of a budget so was thinking this would do the job:

http://www.laptopsdirect.co.uk/HP_Pavillion_g6-1347ea_Core_i5_Laptop_in_Red_A9W19EA/version.asp

Are there any better deals around?

Any advice appreciated, cheers guys.

Screen resolution is 1366 x 768, so it'll do 720p (1280x720) but not 1080p (1920x1080) without downscaling or sticking it out to an external display. Maybe that's ok though?

just for the record, yes it'll handle high def vid rendering, but if you're actually hoping to record and edit movies with that I'd think again.

Spend £500, get a desktop, and you have something far, far better than that.

I got my dell 17" big battery core i7, 4g, tv card from dell outlet for £600 inc vat delivered. Only 2 problems: it is big (obviously) and heavy. The reason I think it was so cheap - it does not have 2 spare slots for RAM, so now "only" running 8gb - therefore I think people may have returned these (google seems indicate there was some issue with people expecting 2 spare slots), apart from that it is incredible value for money.
