I have a couple and wear them from time to time but have read something online that seems to suggest that they are 'creepy' and for 'old men' 😥 I'm just 42.
What's the collective point of view?

Noooo. Rolled up long sleeve shirts (rolled to elbow only) are acceptable however (on hot days).

do you work behind a counter? Are you required to wear a name badge?

If the answer to either of these is no, then short sleeved shirts are not for you.

Not tucked in and not with Chinos.

I have a short sleeved Ted Baker shirt on with jeans and brogues. I look ok.

Just noticed a work colleague over the partition is wearing said short sleeved shirt. I'll see if he'll serve me a Big Mac.

if you're saying nay, then some justification or some minimal reasoning for that argument please 🙂

Perfectly acceptable. Epaulettes make a nice detail, as do buttoned single turn-ups on the sleeves.

If you drive a bus, yes

OK serious answer, if they work for you then why not? I look like an idiot in one as do a lot of people but some folks can carry it off.

I saw a dude in a short-sleeve suit the other day, that was awesome

Me too, but not with a tie. Don't think I could carry off the Sipowicz look.

As for the OP, how on earth can a shirt be creepy? Get a grip!

No no no.

Unless it's a Hawaiian shirt and you work in a beach bar.

Do you work in a beach bar?

Justification?

Short sleeved shirts are nasty and creepy.

Fine, as long as you button it all the way up, roll the sleeves up and well I assume you've got tattoos?

How could he do that, surely he'll be too busy fixing the photocopier?

don' work behind a counter or drive a bus..

But you do repair photocopiers. Amiright?

Edit: too late!

Joking aside - and no, I'd never wear one in an office - wear what you like. The world of workwear is changing - I do a suit job but haven;t worn a suit for years.

Top tip is to avoid sleeves that are too "flappy".

A well-tailored long sleeve shirt without breast pocket and without a tie is a smart, acceptable style for the office all over the world especially in hot countries. Older men often have sun damaged forearms or lots of body hair, which needs to be kept hidden - my arms are covered in little white scabby dots, which are solar keratoses so I keep them covered because they're unsightly and because my GP told me to protect the skin from UV.

Suns out?
Gunz out?

If its really warm I might, but definitely not with a tie. I only ever wear a tie for work when I'm meeting clients and then I'm generally in a suit so no.

Dress down Thursday / Friday its a perfectly acceptable alternative to a T-shirt

I can't believe that there are still people around who think it's socially unacceptable to wear a short sleeved shirt for work. How sad is that?

I can't stand long sleeve shirts, always worn short sleeved for work and casual wear. Don't wear t - shirts at all though.

In summer I normally wear ss shirts eg

but whilst its gone cool, I'm back in T-shirt and fleece for a few days.

Obviously both with shorts. Trousers don't come back out till December...

I wear short sleeved shirts, and I don't give a shit if anyone thinks it's wrong.

I work in civil engineering though not the financial industry where you don't get an interview unless you already have the uniform.

And i have massive guns so SS shirts look ok on me!

As with all sartorial matters, you need to ask only one question....

Always wear short sleeve in summer as I overheat so easily and think the oxford weave ones I wear look fine...maybe as I'm slim as think tubby people don't look so good in them but I don't judge them for it...!

We're not allowed to wear short sleeves, but that's to protect our arms if we get blown up.

It's pedantic but definitely more 'coach driver' than 'bus driver'. Punters got to see your tats.

Short sleeved shirts for work?

WGAF what middle class pillocks think, it's work.
Current attire blue stripes, short sleeve, breast pocket. NOBODY CARES.

And if you notice what shirts other people are wearing, then you're quite obviously a lady.

The four words 'fast food restaurant employee' is your answer*. A particularly grave offence is committed if worn with a tie.

*this rule does not apply to fast food restaurant workers

No, no no, no no no.
If you're a techy, a coach driver or a fast food worker then yes, if not, then no.

What's the consensus on linen? It's often 30+ degrees in the lab as we're not allowed air con.

I'll vote No.

I'm not keen on men's forearms, they frighten me.

All that hair...

Ewe.
