[Closed] Secondary glazing - rough cost

I'm thinking about getting secondary glazing fitted as I have two sash and case windows in my flat which is in a listed building so fitting double glazing will be very expensive.

Anyone had this fitted and have a rough guide to costs. Windows are pretty tall, one is 1.45cm wide and 287cm high., other is 97cm wide by 187cm high. I could probably fit the smaller one myself but the problem with the big window is that the window recess is sloping so no idea how that would fit.

Can't help on costs unfortunately, ours had it fitted before we bought the place, I can say that it's really good though! Massively reduces noise and no drafts at all. I dare say it was reasonably pricey as it all looks pretty good, the units fit into slotted tracks as well as having magnetic strips, so very secure fit.

Can't help on costs, but bear in mind you may still need Listed Building Consent for secondary glazing depending on where you are - it's required by some LPAs.

Don't think I'll need listed building consent as when I bought the flat the interior of the building had been ripped out and replaced. Its modern inside so can't see that being an issue.

Up to you, if it was my property I'd still check the local policy.

I'd be interested in this too. I also have sash and case windows that are in reasonable condition although a bit draughty. I'm in a conservation area too and the cost of replacements is eye watering so I feel your pain. ๐Ÿ™‚

I have already spoken to planning and had a long chat about it, she suggested secondary glazing and didn't mention it requiring planning.

And it's not just the cost of replacement, unless you present a case that the window is beyond repair then they won't give permission to replace. Condition is okay though, just the sill a bit rotten.

May be of use to folk, they also have a number of other free guides that are handy if you live in an old property:
