I wouldnt bother with goretex liners they just keep the water in. If you run in hills/fells then expect your feet to get wet.

a runner to be experienced in [s]minimalist[/s] running before hitting long distance

XAs - I have one set of GoreTex and one not. The GoreTex ones are my all-year-round shoes as they don't get soaked in long grass etc. they are A LOT warmer than the non GT ones, which I prefer for running.

I have two pairs at the moment....

XA gtx's: rubbed my feet like hell first 2 or 3 outings, but now the most comfortable shoes ive ever owned wear them 24/7. Been through 3 pairs of the quick laces in a year though!! But Salomon just give you a free set if they break 🙂

Speedcross 3 cs: after owning and running in a pair of 2s for 2 years I bought these and there brill, sole wears down fast so just use them for muddy day though.

Overall Salomon are great! Own a full set of their trail running kit too... Exo tights and xa softshell and there also ace. I will always 100% reccomend them!

Get the shoes!!!

I've been on the lookout for their successors for months now, but I balk at paying the price stores want for them. I keep waiting for a Go Outdoors offer that involves a stock of more than one pair in the country.

And they did. Salomon Vega, £45. Happy Cougar is happy.
