There is hypocrisy however in repeatedly patronising us with the fact that not real vinegar exists.

You obviously aren't a QI fan. The suggestion that it should be called salt and non-brewed condiment wasn't supposed to be taken entirely seriously. Sorry

<blockquoteExactly. Hence my comment that if it wasn’t for foreigners Brits would live on a diet of coal and lard.

Point taken. I shall go make some mayonnaise as penance.

Cheese and pickled onion and gerkin sandwich

Inspired suggestion. Just tried it and,,,,,,yum.

Oh and I think it was said above, but it has to be Heinz, and has to be the proper full fat version.

Right?

It's like vinegar (or not vinegar) three ways on cheese.

Salad cream just got added to the shopping list.

Also, malt vinegar can sod off. Non-brewed condiment (commonly referred to as vinegar) is the stuff that chips should be drowned in.

I like malt vinegar. Is that now wrong?

I love it too. I think it means we’re worse than Hitler

Anyway… I’m cooking gammon, egg and chips tonight to chomp while I watch the footy. Malt vinegar/non-brewed condiment will be heavily involved, though salad cream won’t

Home made mayonnaise. Takes a few minutes and is way nicer than anything from a factory.

Respectfully, you're missing the point. Love jars of mayo, love homemade mayo, love salad cream. Choose the right tool for the job.

Chips and salad cream is not better or worse than chips and mayo - just different. I'm an equal opportunity condiment user.
