Yeah the OP wasn't a prick about it, you were.

Almost like you only posted to get a reaction.

Yeah that's not a lot more to be said about that crime.

The one who went past me at 45mph chasing deer in the woods this morning was absolutely ecstatic.

I felt sorry for it when it felt obliged to slow down and say hello to my dogs, everyone was getting their daily exercise.

Taken today, she was in her element in a massive enclosed area to just run. Next time I shall take a better lens and try and capture the speed.

Zoiks, Scoob.

That's a fair sized longdog. Mind you our Saluki/Grey girl is 27kg. They're deceptively lanky. She knocked herself out running into my leg once. Had me worried once I'd got over the initial pain.

Thing about sight hounds is they don’t crave human attention

Erm. Well. Our whippet is the literal opposite of this statement. Wherever you're sitting, within several minutes, the whippet will be there as well. Probably trying to clamber onto your shoulders. Ridiculous creature.

The other one couldn't care less. But she likes the pack to be around. Just not right up in her face.

I had the same thoughts as op as all the ones I've met seemed rather dull and lifeless. I suppose them having to be permanently on a leash didn't help (ex racing dogs that couldn't be trusted not to bolt at sight of small furry things) Friends of mine have had several and I'm sure they are very loving at home with their family but I dog sat one for a weekend and found it difficult to connect unlike the black lab I regularly sit for who's so a total sop.

They're different, I think that's a fairer way of putting it. They express themselves differently and don't necessarily act as you would expect them to.

You also have to remember a high number of them have been rescued, often over the age of 5 and have not had a good life up until then. You would be miserable too if you thought every male in the world was going to abuse you. There are some who never seem to get out of foster homes (black ones seem unpopular for some odd reason). But despite all that they are still loving and affectionate dogs.

If you want a good example of a dog that fitted the "completely rubbish" profile and is slowly coming out her shell have a look here:

Ours still gets separation anxiety, I spoke to him in a weird voice just there and he bolted up the stairs. When we got him he didn't know how to play either with us or other dogs. We got him when he was 2 1/2 and have had him for 3 1/2 years now and still find odd little quirks. And we think he was actually fairly well treated, he just wasn't a pet.
