Well that’s Pools A and B decided

Come on, it’s not guaranteed that Japan will beat Scotland.

😂

One point. I thought the refs were supposed to be keeping better control of offside - in just about every game so far players are constantly offside in the centres.

Scotland have only got a 4 day turnaround before that game too.

Yes – but the game before is russia so we should be able to rest guys

Russia will be licking their lips after today. Scotland should win, but not necessarily if they get ahead of themselves.

Russell may have had the ball but it was crap ball always without space - partly due to good irish play blitzing to cut off the moves but mainly because the forwards were not getting him on the front foot.

As an aside, what game do people think will provide the biggest score in the competition?

Nice to see that Farrell’s first involvement is with a shoulder charge to the face. 🙄

As a casual RU follower this is a great thread to follow, thanks and well done peeps.

In peril of losing all credibility with chips on shoulders though...

First of all Ireland deserved the win. As for Scotland Rory Lawson got it right on the radio commentary when asked how poor the Scotland performance was he said " Less than 2 out of 10 I don't have the vocabulary to describe it"

Ref failing to compute that Tonga have the stronger scrum

Commentators also saying that Tonga collapsed. Couldn’t possibly be England in their minds. 😁

Eh???

Just supporting the underdog.

Are English fans getting a chip on their collective shoulders because Wales, Ireland and Scotland don’t all become English cheerleaders? 😂 (So many reasons for supporting teams -or not! - buts it’s always ABE in their minds.)

England are often the favourites, but should they play Ireland for example I’d support them : )

So world rugby want to get rid of offside and high tackles - appear not to have told this ref. Both of the England line crosses so far have had a Tongan headlock.

Yup - good call on the high tackle - worth a look as it was marginal but correct decision.

England will need to show a lot more to be contenders. on the evidence so far SA and NZ will eat them alive and they will be hard pushed to beat Ireland

Yeah the kiwis would put 20 plus points past that England performance. Very fragmented and sloppy passing but the forwards should get England to the quarter finals.
The NZ vs SA game yesterday was a completely different level of rugby, sublime.
Ireland may get a semi-final position but don't have enough to win it. Be interesting to see if the French can put a run together.

Handy bar has it.  England were dire in the second half, and for all the bluster looked slower, tired and inaccurate.  “Gelling together” my arse ITV, that lot have been playing together for a very long time in one form or another.

C- for me that.

Relatively poor by England today however it is still job done with a bonus point and hopefully no injuries. Plenty to work on before Thursday, let alone France and Argentina.

Could be worse though...could be Scottish registering the lowest score against Ireland in 50 years. When Scotland are on sing it’s very pretty but there doesn’t appear to be a plan B and they lack carriers to front up in those sort of games. Ireland will be pretty happy with this mornings work.

New Zealand / South Africa both look a chunk better than everyone else.

What’s the point I. Rugby union? They don’t at any rugby? I’ve tried and tried but it’s a dreary tactical battle for the most penalties to win.
I’m a cricket man but try a lot of other sports but good heavens it’s just a media public schoolboy bore fest.
I’ve watched RL, a Shambles of a sport but it’s exciting to watch, shame the people that run it didn’t go to Eton so it got a bit more profile.
A bloke kicks a ball over the posts, the crowd goes wild! In league their fans go for a beer because it’s boring.

Edit : the poster admits to being a regular poster who got a second username to avoid revealing them self on an anxiety thread. Now is using the second username to be a dick.

Good to get a high scoring win but thought tonga might have played a bit more so england would be forced to play a bit more. The passing of the nz team was so much more fluid.

Hodge cited

Only just realised its the same ref who failed to see 1/2p get hit high and late by an Aussie that led to a pretty much season long concussion lay off

Watson out so Scotland's pinball attack and jackal defence has been depleted.

Watson heading home is a big loss for Scotland and a massive shame for him. He's a bloody good player.

Seems to have a blindspot for those 'fair' Aussie tackles.

Townsend
Calls for him to go are getting louder and he must carry responsibility for the poor performance

Wales now have to be utterly ruthless, score from solid phase play and not concede soft penalties.

And Hovis needs a new jacket that fits him.

I cannot believe after all the rugby I watched at the weekend, I’m at work for the Wales v Georgia game : (
The usual good luck to both teams and especially no injuries; now to hide from the World until I get home.

Scotland really were dogshit yesterday.

Hogg conceding a 5 metre scrum after the ball bouncing off the post when it should have gone dead summed up the game.

Ireland were excellent, they played Scotland perfectly, the blitz defense gave Russell no time on the ball and forced loads of errors as they flung it wide to try and create something from nothing.

I hate to say it but on the strength of the performance Japan will beat Scotland and they will have a hard time against Samoa

Me too - the Sky Q app is proving very useful!

I imagine that I'll watch a lot of the not so interesting games just because...

That knock-on that wasn't - the commentators are saying they can't figure out how it wasn't a knock on. But it was a Welsh hand that knocked it towards the Welsh line so from their perspective it went backwards despite being forwards in respect to the direction of play.

Hasn't been like that for 15 years. Sure, there are shit games in RU but so there are in any sport. I don't mind RL but it's all the same. Not enough variations in the action.
