Carwyn Tuipulotu on the bench for Scarlets this weekend.

He might find it tougher playing against grown ups but he does show promise!

Bristol shredding Bath.

Listening to this on radio Bristol - sounds entertaining, especially if you're a Bristol fan.

England: Daly; Watson, Slade, Lawrence, May; Farrell (capt), Youngs; Genge, George, Stuart, Itoje, Hill, Wilson, Curry, B Vunipola.

Replacements: Cowan-Dickie, Obano, Williams, Lawes, Earl, Robson, Ford, Malins.

Pretty aggressive looking pack, and interesting that Ford is on the bench

Not long now, I can’t wait!

England and France close favourites for the Tournament, but it does feel like anything could happen this year.

This weekend should be great. Can’t see past France beating Italy, but it could be an exciting free flowing game. I’d love to see Scotland beat England, mainly because if they do then that really does open things up. Ireland favourites on Sunday, but not by much imho. I don’t think there’s much between Scotland, Ireland and Wales. Wales could lose all their matches or could win the whole thing - likely 4th or 5th.

Just watched this:

https://m.youtube.com/watch?v=g2ny11VZVeE

I’m going:
France
England
Ireland
Scotland
Wales
Italy

Wales: 15. Leigh Halfpenny, 14. Louis Rees-Zammit, 13. George North, 12. Johnny Williams, 11. Hallam Amos, 10. Dan Biggar, 9. Tomos Williams, 1. Wyn Jones, 2. Ken Owens, 3. Tomas Francis, 4. Adam Beard, 5. Alun Wyn Jones (capt), 6. Dan Lydiate, 7. Justin Tipuric, 8. Taulupe Faletau.

Replacements: 16. Elliot Dee, 17. Rhodri Jones, 18. Leon Brown, 19. Will Rowlands, 20. Josh Navidi, 21. Gareth Davies, 22. Callum Sheedy, 23. Nick Tompkins.

It’s unclear to me how they’d shuffle things about if anything happens to North, Amos, RZ or Halfpenny.

If North breaks Tompkins on, if a back 3 breaks North shifts to wing Amos to full back

Are we taking bets on OF dropping a shoulder into Russell?

I think that lack of crowds will make results odd, home advantage will be less, I think Wales will struggle but favourites like England and France will benefit due to refs subconciously favouring favourites.

I'll bet he does it to someone and I'll also bet Ritchie is sent after him to ruffle him. Farrells temperament is an obvious weak point to go for. NO Ryan Wilson on the pitch to start a fight tho

Ooh ooh, here we go. I’m already sitting on the sofa waiting 😀

This has got to be as good a time as any for Scotland. All their first choice players (as far as I’m aware), Russell (who caused England such problems last time at twickenham), England players rusty and several first choice missing. Hopefully a great game. A chance for the Scotland players to show Gatland what they can do in a big game too.

Amen to Squidges points at 14 mins, let’s enjoy the game and banter together for the next few weeks!

So, England destined to play the same game i fear and as above, with some rust, tactics noted by the oppo and missing players plus improvements in Scotland, Ireland and France(!) it evens up the whole tournament, hopefully it’ll be quite a good few weeks.

Although, Simon Amor this morning hinting that England backs point of focus may be changing to use Slade/OS centre differently in attack, although I’ve never really noted Slade being as mercurial in an England shirt as he’s talked up to be.

Ford on the bench and a hefty starting pack, seems like the tactic is to grind Scotland down then go for a flatter faster attack in the last 20, and there’s plenty of pace for that to happen.

Its certainly time for the Scots to stand up and be counted. 3 wins in each of the last 2 series is decent return but 3 wins will be hard this year but must be the minimum acceptable

Scotland are almost at full strength. We are missing our top two hookers both fantastic players and also wee Darcy and mini Horne ( but neither of them a guaranteed start) but apart from that its pretty much first choice. We have now a settled team with depth in most positions and there has not been a better chance to beat England at the cabbage patch for years.

But - england do look formidable. Pace? Does not worry me at all. Scotland have a very pacy team but do we have the power?

Final table

France ( no GS)
Scotland = England ( head says England, Heart says Scotland
Ireland
Wales = Italy

Given my usual record on predictions tho............................

I hope we get to see Ford put up his spiral bomb, apparently it is bloody hard to judge, several players can do it, he seems to be the best though.

Hmm England are away to Ireland & Wales, I reckon there's points difference coming into this again this year, I'd go:

Ireland/France
England/France
Scotland/Wales
Italy

A bit non committal, but I think its more wide open this year, if PD comes into it England will be pushed down the table.

Failed to get my bet on in time this year.
Got caught out by the first "It's the ref's fault" being before first kickoff.

He is on the bench. You will just have to watch Farrell kicking all your ball away instead 😉

Wasps v Saints had an interesting first half, Wasps 2 yellows in 2 minutes, Saints then score 2 tries in 2 minutes

As a neutral I’m really hoping France can kick on from last years progress. The game needs a strong France.

It will be interesting to see how results go with no fans in traditional strongholds.

Scots fans - how will your scrum go? If you get ball it will be a close game.

Good luck all - starting with the cricket it’s a sporting sofa day!!

Gutted for the Italians there, obviously forward but you've got to feel for them.
Can see Italy falling to pieces in second half.

Italy play some good rugby , and aren’t far off. I’m glad they come to play, even though that almost guarantees they won’t win.

Parity in the scrum. Lineouts a worry tho. I think Itoje will be a menace and a new(ish) hookwer not known for his throwing if we get near parity of possession we should do well. Breakdown will be really really important with Scotland obviously going for turnovers

AA - agreed. Some basic structural issues, although France are also a great countering side.

Nice to see Varney doing so well, for someone so young.

France have to be happy with a first game like this; a chance to get a good workout whilst never really being threatened.

Yes, mainly why I was keeping an eye on him. I think it’s good that Italy are making use of overseas players. If they could find enough to start winning games and reaching mid-table then maybe the game would take off more within Italy. Their population is big enough, but I presume at the moment most young Italians are more interested in football.
