Well, it’s clear England were never going to win this, we have been robbed.
Having said that, we’ve played shit in the 20 (at least) and deserve to lose that part of the match albeit not by the magic margin the records will show.
What utter bollocks on both points.
I think that one will be talked about for some time. Well done Wales
Bonus point
Wales were better in the end - whatever else any team putting 40 points on England is s real result
Well, it’s clear England were never going to win this, we have been robbed.
Are you welsh? Blaming the ref? 😉 ( sorry to kick a man while he is down)
England created nothing all game. Mind you wales didn't create much either. Two bald men fighting over a comb
What lost that for England was not the disputed tries but the number of stupid penalties given away giving Wales field position and letting the pressure off. ( Same as Scotland did) What was really stupid was continuing to do the same things - jumping across lineouts being one.
Wow 40 and 👑👑👑 that will do pig, that will do.
Well I'm no expert, but I thought Wales played pretty well. Lots of physicality from them in defence, neutralised the England threat of fast hard runners fairly well. England didn't have that many good attacking opportunities did they? They seemed neutralised. Was it poor decision making?
France v Wales is going to be a big game!
Meh I don't think we were robbed, we didn't deserve to win despite the weirdness. we had the game back at 24-24, so all the dodgy decisions were nullified, then we mucked it up. So sorry, Wales deserved it nicely.
At least they were all friendly at the end of the game. Ref had a shocker and it did have an impact as you are then playing catch-up. No crowd so doesn’t count right?
I think the fake-crowd operator was woefully under equipped there. He didn't seem to have a button for 'boooo' or 'Ref! Come on Ref!'
I quite like Owen Farrell tbh, he's passionate and honest.
Robbed? Pretty sure it was Kryton moaning after the 2015 WC loss about mitigating circumstances? Wasn’t the second try legit technically?
Fair play to them, I thought Wales would get thumped going into the last 20.
More importantly we saw one of Glaws finest wings loosing out in a foot race to the latest off the production line.
Half time interview good too
I cannot stand Farrell the player but the off pitch the man is a model pro. His answers to very provocative questioning in the post match interview were excellent. He must be applauded for that.
England didn’t have that many good attacking opportunities did they? They seemed neutralised. Was it poor decision making?
Englands problem is a constipated midfield. Against modern defenses your 10/12/13 need to create space and England do not. Ford Farrell Slade simply does not work.
He must be applauded for that.
Farrel has a point, if England were good enough they would have come out and smashed Wales despite Pascals 7 or even 14 points.
They couldn’t and didn’t.
Shit reffing, shit England, shit questions by the interviewers.
Knock on definition
Knock-on: When a player loses possession of the ball and it goes forward, or when a player hits the ball forward with the hand or arm, or when the ball hits the hand or arm and goes forward, and the ball touches the ground or another player before the original player can catch it
Surely as he didn’t catch it it’s a knock on?
Said to my boss yesterday, I couldnt see anything but a Wales win.
That being said, that first try was a travesty. The ref got that hugely wrong. The second try I still think shouldn't have been given, I think is questionable whether it was technically correct or not.
On balance though, ref was consistent pretty much the whole game.
and the ball touches
Didn't touch the ground it hit his leg, that's s kick notca knock on, ref was correct.
First one was a shocker though.
Oh and RZ is quick....... very very quick. He’s going to be a lion, you can’t defend pace.......
But he’s better than just being quick as he showed today.
Yep - not a knock on, it was a kick. Before video replay it would never have been given but that doesn't change that it was a try.
First try was very poor reffing
North was very good too, making that 13 jersey his.
Liam a huge improvement over 1/2p2021
I’m more concerned about some of the other shit decisions. Stats show Itoje leaking penalties. Look again at most of them.
The rip - started before he hit the floor. Both players had hands on the ball. Ok - that’s how you want to ref it? Consistency. Nope - Navidi did identical to curry - turn over, play on.
Offside at a ruck. The ball was about 18 inches behind the ruck for ages. Not even close. Free ball play on.
Pinged for offside in a lineout/maul. He jumps for the ball, lands in a position he can’t legally join the maul, so retreats. Pinged for joining offside in a maul he never joined.
Wales looked sharp & played heads up. The 9s quick tap was very good. Was it a pen though? Gray pinged for side entry. I’ve never seen a better example of joining at the back feet & driving through. Grrrr.
England were beaten convincingly after 24-24, an impressive closing out of the game from Wales especially when the momentum seemed to have swung back to England.
Didn’t touch the ground it hit his leg, that’s s kick notca knock on, ref was correct.
First one was a shocker though.
Have seen that given as a knock on countless times!
However, if that's what the decision is, that's a massive gift to any player who knocks it on from now on.
Spilled the ball forwards? Try and kick it. Miss and doesnt make a difference, hit it and bingo! no knock on.
no if its kicked forward it is a knock on. It went backwards from his leg. It effectively a juggle where the ball ends up going backwards. so when the ball hit the ground after the last contact with RZ it was going backwards
I agree tho many times that would be given a knock on.
according to the definition of knock on he didn’t catch it so it’s a knock on. I would say you see it given as knock on 95% of the time.
But that wasn’t the cause of defeat, compound penalties again, going from opponents 22 to conceding a score without having them having create anything is criminal. A repeating pattern. England have some very good players, I have to look elsewhere as to why they are failing to perform......
Agree AA North looks good, having watched him a fair bit for club he has looked sharp, hungry and maybe a few kg lighter?
no if its kicked forward it is a knock on. It went backwards from his leg.
Very lucky then is what you're saying tj?!?!
Rub O' the Green then I suppose.
Edit: spelling, stupid fat fingers!
Pinged for offside in a lineout/maul. He jumps for the ball, lands in a position he can’t legally join the maul, so retreats. Pinged for joining offside in a maul he never joined.
That could also have been a penalty for jumping across or contact in the air.
Very lucky then is what you’re saying tj?!?!
Yes - lucky Mclucky from luckyville
Offside at a ruck. The ball was about 18 inches behind the ruck for ages
Doesn't matter he was stood offside
Yeah, I thought it a bit harsh at first sight, but it was clear he never retreated to an onside position
And we were singing...
In moving from RZs hands to his leg, the ball went forwards. Downwards in his frame of reference but forwards relative to the pitch. Which may or may not be relevant.
Regardless of the actual legality of the penalty decisions England are penalty magnets and need to reset, remove the idea of continuous infringement and maybe they will get the rub of the green? Especially as some of the penalties aren’t in danger areas.
AWJ wasn't as diplomatic as Faz...
England looked threatening with the ball, I thought Watson had another good game. He’s a class player. Hopefully England will sort out their problems and beat France, take the wind out of their sails, ready for the decider.
Two weeks is a long time to wait for another game.
Well, it’s clear England were never going to win this, we have been robbed.
first try, yes, but it got back to 24-24 and engalnd had the all the momentum and then spaffed penalties all over the place. wales played the reff, england didn't. sorry to sound harsh, but i don't think you can chalk that up as a "lucky" wales win or we can only win against 14 or when we play with 16, we were just a bit more savvy and clinical than England. not the game i wanted though and feel strangely empty about a bonus point win
And we were singing…
....hymns and arias, Land of my Fathers, Ar hyd y nos
Can you run up to a player and rap the ball over his head, run round him and kick it before it lands then?
According to the definition he has to catch it again surely.
One thing is for sure, England are being pinged far too much. Whether deservedly or not, it doesn’t matter. Smart players adjust.
I haven’t seen the stats on possession, but I doubt England had much. Then again, if you get pinged every possession, you won’t have much!!
I do love watching Josh Adams when he gets moving. RZ has the wheels but Adam’s is so strong/slippery.
Watch how Zammo leaves May behind!!
Can you run up to a player and rap the ball over his head, run round him and kick it before it lands then?
I dunno - but if you drop the ball, it hits your lower leg, then it goes over the player's head you can collect it and play on, even if it hits the floor. This is called a 'kick'.
Knock on all day long.
Gamesmanship in playing the ref for the Adams try from the penalty kick.
England didn’t learn from their mistakes. You play to the ref, you play to the invisible line only the ref can see. As a professional player you should be able to figure that out within the first few minutes.
I think the English players are being over coached, there are some very good players in that team and their natural abilities are so repressed it’s like watching rugby by numbers.
Wales March on, partially due to the awful ref.
I think that the English players are being chewed out by Jones all the time, which makes them uncertain and robs confidence.
