This one is why you don't do stupid stuff.
Killed a big Range Rover... and some other stuff because the drivers are fools.

I did think the polo heading that far down the river was a good effort. As was the bmw guy trying to empty the water out of his car

Idle thought, I wonder how many of those cars are otherwise knackered?

Remember, it only takes an egg cupful of water sucked into your engine to wreck it.

And they've turned up with gallons of the stuff, the bastards.

Very crap. And I feel sorry for the poor residents who have to put up with all this shite.

With plenty of videos over a million views I reckon their life is much better than before they started filming it...

How crap must your life be

Put into order:

Those who think "I'll try to drive through a river rather than go a minute out of my way, despite the road strewn with broken vehicles and a peanut gallery"

Those who stand braying at the edges, egging them on

Those who spend hours making video channels

Those who watch said videos, laughing at all the idiots

Those who hit a cycling forum taking the piss out of some or all of the above

We live about 30 minutes from Rufford ford. We go to Rufford Abbey a couple of times a year with the kids for a nice walk around. They always enjoy getting to the ford as the cars wazzing through are fun.

The majority of the time it's much lower than in these videos. For info the people who go through fastest, and make the biggest splash, are normally in works vans. They also get the biggest cheer.

Just idly checked a couple of them and the silver Disco is now SORN, and several others appear to be no longer registered - some of the older/non-hobby vehicles presumably just aren't worth repairing.

Is all that white vapour smoke or steam?

I meant the ones getting drowned. If I was a cynic I'd say it seems a handy way of getting rid of a lemon.

I haven't had a look at how many Youtube hits they're getting but that alone could pay for the next Landy.

@squirrelking But what's the benefit of drowning it rather than just scrapping?

Insurance payout obviously.

After a quick Google it looks like the insurance companies divide claims for cars being flooded into two categories
Unintentionally driving into flood waters where they will pay out.
Intentional driving into flood water where they do not pay out.

It would be interesting to know what happens in the real world and to those who drive a leased vehicle into flood waters and cause it to be an insurance total loss.

Aye, but (without knowing the answer to this) surely the scrap value and the insurance write-off value of a 15yo 206 is going to be about the same?

This.

I also imagine someone wrecking a works truck would be having a chat with neither coffee nor biscuits, especially as I gather diesel engines are much more prone to hydrolock damage.

Ah but is that flood water or a legitimate road?

As for payouts I have no idea tbh. Depends if it's a 15 year old car or a fairly new one already plagued by gremlins I guess.

Well there will likely be video evidence for the insurance co.

Still reckon it's a lot of trouble to go to to write something off +/- get stung for recovery charges.

Why’s it called Rufford Ford?

At a guess, because it's a ford and its located in Rufford. 👍

So why not just Rufford?

The village is just called Rufford. There are other places that are named for their fords though, for example Chandlers Ford and Dagenham.

It’s odd, there is no place called Ruf, but perhaps there was. A bit like Sleaford, there once was a ford over/through the river Slea. I've never been bothered enough to look it up TBH.

Given that it's rather a rough ford perhaps it should be renamed Rufford Rough Ford?

I was filmed riding through a ford maybe 10 miles or so away from Rufford over the Christmas holidays. 3 or 4 cars parked up with about 10 people of varying ages watching and cheering, all good natured but very little to see,  the water was quite shallow, I didn't get my feet wet.

Jesus he was 'determined' wasn't he?

Were those the closure barriers he 'collected'?

Yep, they are normally blocking the road, but the water was so high they were below the surface

used to live in the area.
The ford was always known to attract dick heads.
Nothing seems to have changed.

I find it weird that the bloke who did most of the YouTube content on this stuff just happened to be there, even though the ford has been closed for ages, when this farmer decided to go all Michael Douglas.

Then, as soon as the barriers had gone, there were a load of fresh numpties straight in ready for some hydrolock action.

I read he farmer was just pulling the blocks out of the way to stop someone driving into them without warning. Who knows. It's a bit of a coincidence someone was filming just as it happened

Looked quite young. The actual person who owns that tractor might not be too happy with his antics.
