but you couldn't do it yourself... £5 misc labour seems fair enough.

Would you like me to pop round and show you where the caps lock key is ? I'll do it for a quid.

🙂

i'm a locksmith and if you lock yourself out and it takes me three seconds to gain entry to your house i'm still charging you an hours rate of £46, so i'd say a fiver was great value for somebody to do something you cant.

What did you expect him to pay you.

He provided the shop,
the heating ,
the tools,
the knowledge,of how to do the job,
His own wages,
and he probably said helo as well.

I would have charged you an extra fiver for not knowing where your capslock key is.

Minimum labour charge. Add insurnace to that list from Project.

Bike shops are not charities - pay up of shut up.

Can't complain in my opinion, you couldn't do it so took it to a specialist to do it.

If a dentist had to remove a tooth and the flat rate was £100, if it took an hour and you paid £100 - not bad. If it took 5 minutes and you paid £100 would you complain that he was too quick? Doubt it

£5 is a bargain, if you couldn't do it what were your other options?

For someone who spends most of his time abusing the spirit of the classifieds (I don't believe that is all your old kit you are flogging) to make some cash, bitching about someone who is openly running a trade making a fiver for doing you a job you were unable to do seems a bit rich.

And don't shout so much.

edit-I also doubt it took 3 seconds from you opening your mouth to ask about it, to you getting your change/letting them get on with earning some money.

I had a rounded bolt in a brake lever clamp. Went to the bike chain in Edinburgh, they told me that they charge around £30/h labour and will try to get the bolt out for 30min max. Was apparently an easy job as took them couple of minutes. I paid only £5 for something I wouldn't be able to do, didn't have tools to do it and didn't really know how and I was able to swap the brakes over to my new frame and didn`t have to cut the brake clamp and than try to get a new part for Grimeca System 8 brakes (probably difficult in the UK). So for me £5 for the amount of hassle it saved me and that it was done on the spot was a bargain, and I had a new bolt included :-). That's for the non economic side, You also need to take into account that shop has overheads. £5 doesn't seem that bad.

Some people haven't got a effing clue what it takes to run a business and the overheads involved!

What sort of toilet can't remove a rounded bolt? Not exactly rocket science especially when it couldn't have been that bad if it only took 3 secs to remove. A fair price for getting an incompitent out of the preverbial. Learn to use tools properly and stop moaning.

If you had the correct tools you would not have rounded it in the first place!

Ron will sell you a complete set 💡

£5???????????

That's daylight robbery. I'm taking note of that shop's name and making sure never to buy anything from there ever ever ever again. I mean, FFS, charging £5 to take out a bloody rounded bolt. That's just disgusting - it's no wonder the country's going down the drain. And people are complaining about BA cabin crew??? That bike shop could damn well ruin someone's Christmas charging exorbitant fees like that.

I guess that's the end of the fiver you were going to donate for using the classifieds. Never mind, I'm sure STW won't mind - bloody bike shops. All the bloody same. 😉

Is this where somebody blames Thatcher and demands that someone wields a set of Boxxers?

😀

Funny how the first thing we all did was to look at the posting history! Just a classifieds abusing freeloader, so not really worth worrying about.

*adds manwell to the list of people I will never buy from*

my old bike shop would have done it for free, cos I spent a lot of money there. Since I moved away, I rarely use an LBS for parts any more, so seems fair to pay a little extra for labour - I expect this is (generally) where LBS are making more and more of their money, and completely fair of them to do that

I was hoping by now the new forum would have a feature where people could mark someone as a cock, and the more marks they got the bigger the image of a throbbing bellend next to their name would be 🙂

Not a great trader judging by the amount of times the same ads appear.

Then there is the VAT the shop owner will be paying, so that's £4.35 profit. And he also has the cost in admin to log the transaction and to bank the money.
