That is so sad.

A true talent equally at home in rock or blues.

RIP Gary. You will be missed.

Last time I saw him was on B B King's birthday tour but was extremely disappointed that they didn't play together.

Really sad to hear this.

I might wear my Still Got The Blues tour tshirt to work on Tuesday - my own little tribute. We went to see him one night and he was SO amazing we got tickets and went again the following night. Completely blown away...

CG - I saw that tour too.

He was a great guitarist. I loved his Thin Lizzy stint as well as his "Empty Rooms" era and then on moving on to his blues work.

Time to crank the stereo up......

Very sad news, I'm shocked to be honest. Just hope Phil's got one on the bar waiting for him. RIP Gary

How about a Gary Moore tribute night tomorrow?

Reminisce about those gigs we've enjoyed?

Never went to gig. I only really became aware him on a ski trip to Italy. It was a sunny day and we stopped at an isolated hut, popped inside to get drinks and sat on the balcony in blazing sunshine when suddenly the album "Still got the Blues" came blaring out some hidden speakers - seriously fing loud!

"You know I luurrrrvvee you...."
bw bw bw bw bwaaarr
"You know it's troooooooo..."

and so on

The hut guardian and friend had joined us dancing on the balcony, and other skiers stopped to join in. A fun fun afternoon.

I got home, returned to my terrible work project but I bought the album
to enjoy. I was stuck alone in a shelter testing some very badly designed and buggy software so I took a CD player in. "Still got the blues" was very apt for my mood at that time.

Great music and musicians infuse our lives and enhance our little existence. That album of Gary's made my life just that little bit better.

Ya know, it's kinda funny: I grew up listening to Gary Moore doing his rock/metal thing, and to be honest I honestly don't think his voice, or his playing, suits the blues, and yet that is probably what he is most famous for now.

Personally speaking, I'll always remember him for classics such as Wild Frontier, Over the Hills..., Thunder Rising, Empty rooms, Out in the Fields, Military Man etc etc

buzz - what a terrific post from you!

mikey - I enjoyed his playing with B B King, Albert Collins, Albert King. In fact his "The Best of the Blues" compilation is fantastic.

Played "Blues For Greeny" at work today.

Who'd have thought Gary would go first?

Greeny must get that 1959 Les Paul back and do an album "Blues For Gary"

I never liked his blues stuff either but when I was fourteen Gary Moore made me want to become a guitar hero. Black Rose album. I've looked for a youtube video of 'Do Anything You Want To' - but to no avail. However, this from top of the pops when you would talk about it for the rest of the week:

Waiting for an alibi: Lizzy really made that guitar harmony sound their own. A bit like U2 and the rhythmic delay effect. If you use them you just sound like those bands! They pwn those sounds.

Really like the BBKing duet/duelling too - great fun.
