Got my AA renewal through today - they want £150 for something we paid £100 for a year ago, and if I join online I can get it for £90!!
Same every year; get renewal notice, 'How much?!!', go online and get new member price, phone up and moan, they apologise and price match anyway.
Bl00dy ridiculous.
inertia selling....
i rang them when i got my renewal last week at £138. asked if they could do anything on price as was prob gonna leave as i'd found tesco price for £103 and they gave it me for £90.05 - and it was free phone call . hope this helps
Yeah - I've no doubt they'll sort it out at a discounted price when I ring them. It just boils my blood every year.
I rang them up and they did it for £90ish again, i just threatened to go to RAC. 🙂
But if it helps to keep you off the booze, then it's got to be worth it......£100/£150/£90/whatever.
Try Gem motor assist. I have been with green flag, RAC and the AA and gem have been superb plus they are muchos cheap!!!
the day after i'd got a third off i had to use them - patrol man said to ring every year, he was narked off as had pay freeze for 3 year and they made over 500 million in profit last year - no longer the not for profit organisation they used to be. Still the patrol guy had me sorted in 15 mins so my money well spent and it's always an aa van not a subcontractor like i used to get with rac
ernie - good'un!
Supertackysteve - that's why I like to use them, they've been good the 3 times in 7 years I've needed them.
My mate used green flag to get him back from Brum to Lincoln - took 6 hours as they had to go to their depot as it was shift change time so had to swap driver. Bonkers.
matt - tesco only offers an hour of labour so if it goes over that you pay the local garages rate - each to their own but i'd rather know i'm sorted
Or if you have any use your Tesco clubcard points! we do that with RAC every year, refuse to pay with own money as such the points are free so it's a bonus prize! Only want breakdown cover for the motor bikes really but it's £28 worth of vouchers or something.
I did the same with RAC, threatened to leave and cancel my motor insurance and the price dropped from £150 to £100 for home start, recovery and breakdown for me and the missus for two cars. Still pricey.
Pricey unless you get a bill for being towed off a motorway - then it looks really quite cheap 😀
Or just use auto aid for £37...
Half a billion profit?
I get my breakdown insurance for me and the missus in any car younger than 15 years old in with the price of my bank account. Plus worldwide travel insurance. Not bad considering opening the account may have cost me 130 quid but it saved me 800 in mortgage fees AND gives us these benefits too!
I got offered something similar coffeeking but it was a con! They wanted to give me a Premier bank account... which I have to pay £12 a month for the privilege of having!
Got breakdown (get it cheap with Tesco points), holiday insurance (already got it, paid via work), high interest savings/ISA's (well that's pointless paying for the privilege of having higher interest savings accounts!). So I told them where to go!! But guessing each bank is different .. mine just appear to be con artists!

Actually works out fine if you check your finances over and pick it as a suitable product knowing the costs, not exactly a con 😉 Without the reduction in mortgage fees it would JUST have been worth having as the individual items (holiday insurance and breakdown for 2 people) just about add up to the 130 a year. Simple maths 🙂
I had the same with my AA subs. Renewal was £35+ more than online. I rang them up and calmly pointed out that it would be a lot easier for them to just give me the online price rather than me cancel, then take it out again. That worked! 🙂
I've not had any for the last 5 years. Apparently its £150 to join at the roadside, so I reckon I'm in profit 😀
quit them this year after similar stuff. our renewal was £190 ish.
the mrs went autoaid for £40 ish. i went for full european for me van for about £59 (aa wouldnt fix/tow van at roadside anyway (tho they'd happily take your money and only tell you this at the roadside... the dicks)
so about £100 all in. including homestart, insurance to cover hols if the van goes pop before we leave, towing back from anywhere in europe, overnight stays, rental of alternative vans... all sorts.
AA are idiots. gave me the proper hard sell when i rang to cancel too. nearly swore at her and pretty much slammed phone down on her.
thieving nobjocks.
we had exactly the same with the AA - renewal was £168, could get it online for £100. The excuse was that the system that automatically generates the letters doesn't know about current deals so just sends out a full renewal quote.
hmmm
It surprises me that people are surprised by this TBH.
£90?
I payu about £30 and thats with the company knowing full well its a 'classic' car!

I'm not.
I'm surprised that people don't check their prices out before renewing though
M&S House insurance is the same - Renewal is £100 or so more. Go online, get a new quote, cancel old insurance, start again. 3rd year running for us, and we got £40 vouchers for being a 'new policyholder' last time too. 8)
I wasn't supreised - it happens every year. That's what pees me off as I've found the service from them good (in the limited no of times I've used them).
