Loved The Waterboys, and still do, although they've done far better stuff than the one song they're known for, see the album This is the Sea.
World Party's Ship of Fools is also a decent track.

Just saw that on the BBC, big regret I never saw the Waterboys or World Party.
Got a rare Ship of Fools 12".
Sad news, 66 is too young really. I loved 'Goodbye Jumbo' when it came out - I've still got it on LP. Was lucky enough to see World Party twice in the 90s, was always a good night.

When I first met Mrs FH ,a lot of World Party tunes were in our early playlists
Saw them a few times at the Cambridge Corn Exchange,good gigs.

Awe so sad to hear. I always thought he was on borrowed time after the stroke, so I guess he did well to get to 66. Sad I never saw WP live, especially as Karl did a Roundhouse retrospective gig a while ago I didn't know about til too late.
Loved the WBs big music era and Karl's piano was such a huge part of that sound, digitised my vinyl and then rebought on cd, was sad when Karl left but the 1st album and then Goodbye Jumbo made up for that. He wore his influences on his sleeve- Prince, Beatles.
I once made the mistake of playing And I Fell Back Alone during a breakup from an 8 year relationship, I've never produced so much snot and tears in my life!

I missed this today. Very sad. I absolutely loved This Is The Sea and World Party stuff. Some of my all time favourite songs to return to. Love Street is an absolute Bute that always brings tears to my eyes. And God Said…was both succinct and prescient. Really sad loss of a massive talent.
