Oooh, get you girlfriend.
Effinchafing, calm down will you!? Have a beer. And dont hit the little one...I'm keeping an eye on you.
DD; if I had a cat, I'd kick it. It's just as well I don't have a cat.
Calm down? CALM DOWN???
It's cost me three pounds twenty. And you expect me to be calm??? 😯
Mmm... Beer.......
Would've been an additional 7-8 miles or so. I was already tired.
7-8 miles, how terrible in that pan flat London riding on tarmac, i can see how that must be a terrible thing to face 🙄
Besides, you're missing the point of the rant; IT'S A PUBLIC RIGHT OF WAY. I SHOULDN'T HAVE TO PAY MONEY TO USE AN ALTERNATIVE.
the alternative was free, ride yer flippin bike!
I'll GIVE you three pounds twenty if you'll shut up!
And I like your current persona - it makes a change from the previous ones!
Funny, how a rant about a local authority being shit at providing an alternative to a ROW brings out all the boring predictable crap from the usual suspects. Get a life, eh?... 🙄
RD; why not go out and do those 7-8 miles for me eh? Seeing as how your so manly and butch. There's a good chap, thanks.
brings out all the boring predictable knobs...

8 road miles is manly and butch to you?, i'd stick to the ferry mate, sounds like you need the nice sit down 😐

you do read your own posts then
Too easy RD; just too easy...
8 road miles is manly and butch to you?
Yes.
Next question.
you do read your own posts then
More interesting than reading yours, tbh. Sorry, but you did ask.
Foot tunnel updateWoolwich tunnel closure
Updated 8 October 2010:
Due to health and safety reasons, Woolwich Foot Tunnel has been closed to public use. It will remain closed for at least another week while supports are being added, as refurbishment works have revealed structural weaknesses that make the stairs and lifts unsafe for use.
There will be no public access to the tunnel at any time. Greenwich Council is working hard to rectify this situation. While we carry out essential repairs, pedestrians and cyclists wishing to cross the river can use the Woolwich ferry during the day.
Bullshit, as the sign on the tunnel gate clearly said that the lift was broken. They can't even get their story straight!
So, no alternative provided at all to the RoW. Contrary to Greenwich Council's legal obligations. The Woolwich Ferry is in another borough, and therefore nowt to do with Greenwich Council. IE, they've failed to provide a reasonable alternative. Plus, there isn't a 24 hour service on the Woolwich Ferry.
Rubbish. 🙁
That Lahnden is a bag o' **** shocker.
Someone is going to pay for this
they did and they will, £3.20 for the joys of living in London. You can get the ferry from North Ronaldsay to Papa Westray for that and not have to listen to some whinging attention whore. **** me, and people wonder why the Northerners think the Southerners are soft, whinging fairies
That Lahnden is a bag o' **** shocker.
I beg to differ, it's just the whining fairies that live there that give the place a bad name
LycraLout; I'm out of signed posters; will a beermat do you? Who shall I make it out to?
I don't live in London, my give-o-shit meter is barely registering this.
Beermat for you too nickc? 😀
my give-o-shit meter is barely registering this.
But enough to post that though eh? 😆
I can see the local authority should have made provisions, but didn't you say they have been planning the work for years? Plenty of time to stock the piggy bank up for the ferry man or get fit for a whopping 8 road miles. My old man used to cycle 17 miles to work and back everyday, he was a manual worker and managed that at 65 I think 8 road miles ain't going to kill you. Just get on with it.
Id wager a bet of £3.20 that Elfinfredpaddedbradibhah will be banned (again) in the not too distant future..... 🙄
I thought this was a health and safety rant, but there appears to be neither. 0/10
That said, as someone who has recently seen the light after 10 years in London, I can agree with you that it's a ****in disgrace, and I'm not surprised it nearly kicked off on the ferry. It's a shame it actually didn't, as someone somewhere might have woken up to the fact that it's not on.
Letter to Greenwich council, first thing in the morning. And have you considered writing a letter to His Holiness Bojo? Might be worth a shot, anyway.
8 miles is an extra 30 minutes or so on your commute, if you're riding for fitness fine, but if you're just riding to get home, that's a ****in pain in the arse... plus it puts you on some fairly shit roads and increases your chances of a traffic altercation... people use the foot tunnels to avoid the traffic...
Serial nonsense poster has to pay a private company the going rate because he's so feeble he can't cycle 8 little miles, shocker...
Psychle, applying that logic the ferry could sink, the foot tunnels could collapse... Best stay at home.
Mr Woppit I think youve wrapped it up nicely and hit the nail on the head.
Sounds like Woppit is talking about himself TBH..... 🙂
Elfinsafety's mockney grammar just doesn't add up to me?
Ok, for the knobs
Freddedpadbra got his kickers in a twist and being offensive again?
Well I never....
I would be a smidge miffed at that too.
Yes 8 miles isnt a lot ,but if you want to get home after a long day sometimes that extra distance takes the fun out. I would have a word with the council myself.
Ha ha!
I meant this as a tongue-in-cheek pop at a local authority's incompetency, whilst also possibly stimulating some discussion about Rights of Way/Access that sort of thing. You know, the sort of thing people on here grumble about quite a lot. Thought others might have added some of their own similar experiences.
Instead, several miserable twonks have decided that they'd like to express their dislike of me with snidey rude comments. Nice. How very grown up and intelligent. Nor surprise to see some of the usual suspects too. Of course, none of those have ever met me, so obviously are in the perfect position to judge. Oh yes.
Seriously people, get a life. Either ignore it completely, or add something positive. As for me being an 'attention seeker; what are you doing on an internet forum?? 😆
At least I try to bring a bit of interest and fun to this forum. What do you bring? Nowt but bitching and sniping at others.
Water off a duck's back for me. I've obviously got the attention I crave so badly, so thanks for that. 😉
Anyone who wishes to contribute with any accounts of crap local authorities and RoWs, feel free.
After all that............... you are now duty bound to put in a claim for £3.20 to Greenwich Council and take them to court if they fail to pay up.
Report back to us when you have truly triumphed over this evil oppressor.
Nice bike and outfit, Steve. Getting ready for 2012 then? 😆
Id wager a bet of £3.20 that Elfinfredpaddedbradibhah will be banned (again) in the not too distant future.....
I truly hope so.
In the mean time, what do you want them to do? Build you a bridge? If you're so ****ing ace, just build one yourself. It's shut because it might cave in - seems reasonable to me. Just a pity they didn't shut it whilst you were inside.
Have you ever wondered why so many people on here give you responses such as this? Noone else seems to manage to get anywhere near close to the same level of public dislike. Perhaps you should maybe think about that?
Perhaps you should maybe think about that?
I think he thraps over it 😉
To be fair,
He does have a point. Ok, £3.20 isn't the end of the world, but if the council's closed a public right of way then they've acted illegally. If that was your daily work commute, it'd be over a hundred quid a month.
Kicking off on the ferry's just retarded though - it's hardly the ferry company's fault. Keep your receipts.
I truly hope so.
Really? Why? Because I post views different to yours?
Have you ever wondered why so many people on here give you responses such as this? Noone else seems to manage to get anywhere near close to the same level of public dislike. Perhaps you should maybe think about that?
Seems to me to be a small minority of people on here, tbh. Why not talk to someone who's actually met me, Zokes? You in particular seem to harbour a great deal of resentment towards me. I don't really know why. Maybe if you actually explained why, then I could understand, and possibly moderate my behaviour on here accordingly, if appropriate.
Just a pity they didn't shut it whilst you were inside.
Nice. I love you too sweetheart. 😉

Yet another Elfinspotty rant losing the original subject and drifting into elfin trying to get cute with people who think he's a prat....

Ah, someone reasonable who understands my point...
The fact that there is the infrastructure to run a free ferry service yet Greenwich Council have failed to provide one, shows how low-priority cycling really is, despite loads of populist publicity claiming to 'promote' cycling. I think the anger and frustration from cyclists is more than justified. The 'kicking off' was simply a group of about 7 or 8 cyclists who refused to pay, citing the 'Right of Way' thing. Maybe not legally valid on the River Bus, and they did state their beef wasn't with the boat staff, but understandable. TBH the boat staff were pretty decent about it, and sympathised. Apparently Thames Clippers are willing to provide a service to cyclists, but Greenwich Council won't cover the costs.
Pedestrians are well catered for, with the DLR service which costs about £1.50, although they too are entitled to the RoW. It's just that cyclists are unfairly penalised in this situation.
I have no problem with the fact that the tunnel needs renovating. I have no problem with the fact that this will cause some inconvenience. I do have a problem with a local authority's uselessness at providing a reasonable alternative, as is their legal obligation. As I've already stated.
Spoke to some regular commuters who were proper annoyed with this. A week of using the River Bus comes to £32, or £28 with an Oyster card (din't have sufficient credit on mine. Doh!). So, £28 to £32 a week more because a local authority is effectively breaking the Law.
Not on really is it?
Not really on if the tunnel caved in either due to neglect. As far as I knew the local authorities HAD laid on an alternative, an 8 mile detour?
If it was you personally, affected in this way, perhaps you'd think differently.
An alternative must be 'reasonable'. And 8-mile detour, for a 400 meter journey, isn't. Not when there is the option of a ferry. Read what I've posted.
I did read what you posted. What did you honestly want the council to do? If they used public money up to fund a ferry to cross 400meters of water there would be a huge outcry at the waste of funds. Not to mention the impact on the environent and pollution. You need to think of the bigger picture.
