Just a heads up for anyone with a "P" to their name, it seems it auto-renews the subscription. 😠

It's no different to any other mag though surely? You only ever get the free gift when you subscribe.

Or pretty much most subscription based companies those and thing like insurance. They take a hit on profit with a gift or discount to entice new members. It’s been discussed on here before when beanies were the deal.

That may be true, still feels a bit rubbish as a regular subscriber. Feels like we are being taken for chumps.

Just cause others do it doesn't make it right.

infact I'm pretty sure I never got my T shirt when I subscribed way back in time. 🤔

Call round to STW towers, moan about the forum and drink their coffee.

I think I got a beanie? Or a T Shirt?? You can have the beanie if I can find it. 🙂

So you’re saying all 6,000 subscribers should be given a bag of coffee? Not sure that's viable.

Where did I say that?

What I said was long term subscribers get nothing for their loyalty.

So if every subscriber was to cancel and renew the mag would implode as its not viable?

For my £15 i get several copies of a pretty decent mag over the year, new content launches and some great conversation and often great advice on the forum thereafter for free.

I'd consider that good enough value to supply my own coffee when reading the Mag.

As said its is to entice new customer's. I got a tshirt a few years back when i signed up. Everyone does it, new mortgage customers often get lower rates, sky were giving new customers a free tv (cant imagine them shipping out a free tv to all their existing customers) etc etc.

You got a shiny new forum and a revamped classifieds section. What more do you want?

And we are made to feel valued almost constantly when using the site on mobile. Some people are never happy.

So then who gets them and who doesn't? Who pays for them?

well loyal subscribers clearly get nothing for their loyalty.

Who pays for them?

obviously the loyal subscribers are paying for the loss leading new subscribers.

Your loyalty to STW towers does have to be admired, it does come across a bit maybot tho.

The mag isn't viable. Its subsidised by the forum.

for the record, I wasn't demanding one. Just assuming it was a newbie thing.

All the frothing, pun intended, is absolutely unnecessary.

Long term subscribers must be a comforting buffer of reliable income stream for a small scale setup like STW. You'd have thought a small token of gratitude every now and then would make good business sense to keep them (us) feeling valued. Your 10th year of subscription free maybe (and 20th and 30th etc). Or an 'exclusive' mug on your 10th/20th/30th anniversary. Or a personal card after 10 years thanking your continued support and an offer to drop in for a coffee on a specific day. Virtually no one would take it up but the value is in the offer not the take up.

Can you buy a bag of the coffee without the subscription? Is it any good?

As plenty of others have said the gift is an incentive to make you sign up for a subscription if you don't already have one.
The existing subscribers who feel hard done by and think they are doing ST some kind of favour need to have a think about what they already get and decide whether it's worth what they pay.
Think about it in terms of what Adam Smith wrote "It is not from the benevolence of the butcher, the brewer, or the baker that we expect our dinner, but from their regard to their own interest."
Basically ST isn't sending out free coffee to new subscribers because they are generous, it's because they think they can sell more subscriptions and hence make more money by having this offer.
