Clearly not paying attention, I had an itch so gave it a good scratch...only to see the remains of a tick on my finger. Checked and I've a lump when the wee thing was chewing on me and what appears to be it's pincers still stuck in me...
How do I get them out? Not enough sticking out for tweezers to get. The idea of taking a hot sharp knife and carving a wee bit out of me 'appeals' but isn't really going to happen (wearing a new t-shirt so don't want it stained yet!).
Cheers.
Don't.
Let it heal, your body will push it out over time.
Really? I thought there was a risk of the jaws becoming infected.
If it were me (I'm no doctor) I'd be in there with a pin, or a pick or something that I'd just run over a flame.
Then give it the good news with some colloidal silver or hydrogen peroxide solution.

If you have left a small part of the tick mouthparts in your skin, which can sometimes happen, medical advice is just to leave it and your body will deal with it. You can do more damage digging around with a needle to try to get it out, and this can be particularly distressing for children.
Ta...I've a ready supply of needles so will go and give it clean up for speedy expulsion as I suspect I'll have done something by scratching the itch and removing the body from the pincers.

Why would you make children watch you digging it out with a needle?

I got bitten by one when I was 14 or 15, didn't get it all out and it still flares up periodically. I'm 64 now.
Stanley knife would be my go to implement, mind you I tried that on a cyst I had on my neck and my doctor had a bit of an eppy at me for that one. Apparently there are people trained to do that sort of thing.
I once had one hanging off me on my right leg between my right testicle. I felt something crawl up my leg when me and some mates were lounging in some long grass one afternoon. It had camped out there overnight and it was only the following morning when I had a shower that I brushed the tick off and noticed what it was lying on the shower floor. Not sure if the warm water had made it loosen its grip but it came off very easily.
This was over twenty years ago so I reckon I'm safe. You could be too...or not. But I'd definitely do some gouging with a sterilised needle and an eye loupe
Iv had 6 so far this season. Horrible things. One on my thigh reacted a bit so rang the doctor who bluntly told me to go to chemist who in turn told me to get antibiotics from the doc!
I can confirm that getting the mouth parts out with a needle (or board pin in this case) does distress children. My ten year old had one on the back of his head at the weekend.
