Rich - Went to the 20th birthday of Warp Records last week. Despite the fact Aphex Twin is touring and has a place nearby, he didn't turn up. Was gutted.

Bit eclectic but you could try
Sunn O)))-their CD Monoliths and Dimensions is the album of 2009 IMHO

Nadja-Radience of Shadows is as good as any for an introduction to the band

Bass Communion-Ambient side project of Steven Wilson of Porcupine Tree

Wolves in The Throne Room-Ambient Black Metal if you can get your head round that

Or slightly more mainstream
Opeth

Porcupine Tree

Alabama 3

My ISP is probably about to get upset at me. Thanks guys! Some names I know, some names I don't.

The "recommend me" option has now completely died from all the random picks 🙂 I confused it before by downloading Slayer and Bach at the same time, for weeks it refused to recommend me anything but Apocalyptica and the metallica S&M album. But now it's just dead...

First time I've seen Sunn O))) described as jolly nice 🙂

Saw them a couple of days ago for the first time and was totally blown away it was the only gig I've been to where earplugs were reccomended and were given out on entry to the venue

Cool. Think I've got Silver lying around somewhere. I'm gonna dig it out now you've reminded me. Techno Animal was another one of his as well I think.

Genius. Second Bad Vilbel has got to be one of the benchmarks of electronic music. Quality video too.

Second Bad Vilbel has got to be one of the benchmarks of electronic music.

They've written so many seminal tracks, it's scary. Krib is my favourite though. Saw them live a few times in that era. Stunning 😀 Also remember being at The Fridge in Brixton a few weeks before Tri Repetae came out. Bloke in the back room played the whole album, and within a few seconds it was obvious what it was. For me that's what distinguishes the very best electronic artists.

Check out Ben Frost's "By the throat", and Dirty Projectors' "Bitte Orca". Two very different but great records released this year that won't fade in greatness anytime soon.

Anyone digging M83's first two albums would also probably enjoy Ulrich Schnauss.

Here's a tune on youtube.

I must get his most recent album actually.
