And now it's rendered inert. No voltage.

Presumably it activated the protection circuit.. Isn't there a way to reset that? Anything I can try before I recycle it?

I'd chuck it.

You have no way of knowing what damage you have done to the cells and you might get a nasty surprise next time you charge it if they are compromised.

most have a circuit board strapped to the cells inside the shrink wrap - sure that's not broken?

Is the battery really worth the chance of setting fire to wherever you are going to try and charge it up?
