What's good / cheap?

I've done all the cycling auto's, like a bit Clive cussler / stephen king style action, but looking for something more life changing yet easy reading on the beach.

Recommendations?

Life-changing yet easy-reading?

Jonathan Livingston Seagull? You can read it in an hour but its charms lasted me well beyond the holiday after I read the paperback. There seem to be a couple of PDFs online should you wish to 'review' 8)

I read The Alchemist (Paulo Coelho) recently - was compelling and an easy read, also stays with you long after. Highly recommended.

Also:

Into The Wild
Catch 22
To Kill A Mockingbird

2 of my favourite books ive read on holidays...

The Alchemist - Paul Coelho

Short book ..which tells the magical story of Santiago, an Andalusian shepherd boy who yearns to travel in search of a worldly treasure as extravagant as any ever found. The story of the treasures Santiago finds along the way teaches us, as only a few stories can, about the essential wisdom of listening to our hearts, learning to read the omens strewn along life's path, and, above all, following our dreams.

The Prophet - kahlil gibran
In a distant, timeless place, a mysterious prophet walks the sands. At the moment of his departure, he wishes to offer the people gifts but possesses nothing. The people gather round, each asks a question of the heart, and the man's wisdom is his gift. It is Gibran's gift to us, as well, for Gibran's prophet is rivaled in his wisdom only by the founders of the world's great religions. On the most basic topics--marriage, children, friendship, work, pleasure--his words have a power and lucidity that in another era would surely have provoked the description "divinely inspired." Free of dogma, free of power structures and metaphysics, consider these poetic, moving aphorisms a 20th-century supplement to all sacred traditions--as millions of other readers already have.

If you havent read it or seen the film.. Life of Pi (book is way better than the film)

Pick something by Matt Ruff, Bad Monkeys is a good starting point.

1984 is a great read too.

My holiday list includes A Hitch-hikers guide - at long last.

Also read 'Unbroken' in recent years, just found out they made it into a film. I can say that it was a ripping read about an incredible human being who survived against all odds. I love that stuff - inspiring.

Not looking for much are you?

Try The Martian by Andy Weir. Excellent read. Probably won't change your life, but will most likely make you laugh, and at other times cringe.

The Stranger (or Outsider) by Albert Camus,
Simple and relatively short 20th century classic.

Can I plug my dad's book? It's the story of his recent overland adventure driving to Cape Town. Shows that an ordinary couple can do a pretty extraordinary thing. Could be life changing if it encourages you to pack up and go, and it is cheap. Unfortunatley it's only just gone up and it's going through the Amazon system so won't actually be available for a few days.

If you've not read it, Faster my Michael Hutchinson is a brilliantly geeky cycling book.
Engage: The Fall and Rise of Matt Hampson is good if you have an interest in rugby, pretty inspiring too.

Guy Martin's autobiography is pretty good.

And I recently read a Brian Cox book, Human Universe while on holiday.

If you haven't read Bill Bryson "A short history of nearly everything" that is a good read if you like sciency stuff.

Tail End Charlies by John Nichol & Tony Rennell is an excellent book about the bomber crews in WWII if you like a bit of war history.

Any of the Lee Child, Jack Reacher books are good holiday fodder.
I've recently started reading books by Vince Flynn which are OK.
And, if you like science fiction type stuff, there's a few books by Marko Kloos (Frontlines series) that are pretty good as well; Terms of Enlistment is the first one.

Not sure many/any of these are life changing, but good to read nonetheless.
