Who else remembers having a dry orgasm whilst climbing these ropes in PE?

I do remember our infant school had these massive climbing frame / stall bar things which swung out and clamped in the middle of the hall floor and then we all scaled them without a single mat in site and a lovely oak floor to land on....

These things...

Yeah I used to love all that. Swinging your leg over the top of the frame and sitting on the top.

The ropes that came out from the wall ran adjacent to the stage.... Much Tarzan

I also remember some kid in our class at Junior school saying he could do 50 push ups and the teacher didn't believe him, so she made him do them on top of the desks in the middle of the class, which he duly did. Respect, pretty sure I couldn't have done a single one at that age....

Nope. Couldn't do it anyway. By the sounds of it I was missing out.

A remember some sort of A Frame and bench arrangement that made a ramp and the class idiot who tried to do a somersault off it. He went in like a dart and the 2" thick evil smelling rubber and canvas mat offered him no protection.

I remember some kind of pommel (?) which had the grippiest split leather top. I was only about 4'3" in junior school so I always got hung up on it unlike 'the taller kids'.

That's pretty niche even by STW standards.  Do you still get a twinge when you see a ball of string or does it have to be proper rope?  Are you banned from local climbing shops and chandlers?

We still have all that kit at the primary I work at. Kids sit on the benches for assemblies. Well, the big ones do. A sign of being Y6.

I'm sure they were attached to the hall ceiling and we raced up them and slapped the roof! I mean it was probably only 8 ft but still....

You're lucky, my infant / junior school was a beautiful Victorian building, recently levelled to make way for a pig ugly retirement complex - such is the change in demographics over the last 50 years....

As a kid we used to call those benches "Forms", was this a NornIrn thing or more widespread?
