here we go

As a student, i worked in Dixons on Prince's Street in Edinburgh

now, we had a little competition going. When arriving for work in the morning, several members of staff liked to enjoy a quiet 5 minutes in the toilet with the paper to drop off the previous nights dinner.

due to a large surplus stock of polaroid cameras, it was decided that a contest should be run to compare the fruits of these labours. A noticeboard was duly erected and the 'Big Chug' competition began with regular photographic evidence of logging off in a fairly impressive fashion. This went on for several months.

Eventually we all lost interest and took to other forms of entertainment. One of the management had however decided on a project to scan and catalogue the competition, presumably for posterity. Using a scanner and PC on the shop floor the polaroids were saved to disc.

A few months later, the scanner range changed and the shops display stock was sold off.

you can probably imagine the rest of the story.

needless to say, a lovely old Edinburgh Lady did not appreciate her 'free gift' and reported the store to trading standards 🙂

the same store also sold a display PC to an elderly couple. after a year or so a younger family member helped to 'clean up' the PC as it had become slow. he found it to rammed full of pretty filthy pornography.

that is why you won't get on the internet on display PCs in dixons and that episode is (was) used as an example at Dixons training camp

If you've apologised then nothing more need be done. However, if the user saw your comments using an account that wasn't theirs, then quite frankly they should wind their neck in.

What you shouldn't do is try to remove any trace because no matter how hard you try, you'll leave a trail.

I'm not sure how large a company you work for, but I've always found that large companies attract the kind of work shy, complainers that take everything to offence. This makes them a very bad place to work for people who have an opinion, personality or who actually do a proper days work as opposed to a full day of playing corporate politics.

I got out of Enterprise IT years ago and haven't looked back, there are decent places to work if you're in IT and they're called SME's where you can actually get appreciated and rewarded for your hard work and diligence.

And breathe......

If you want to see him struggle for a bit, take a screendump of his current desktop and set it as his screensaver. . .
