Going to start having porage for breakfast. Just wondering how everyone eats theirs? Haven't touch it for 20 years tbh, was brought up on salt and milk. The only way, or am I missing a better way?

Porridge is not for the summer.

In the winter, I have greek yoghurt and honey.

I like honey on mine, but you can always spritz it up with fruit (fresh or dried) and flaked almonds (or similar).

Oh - and I prefer something like Scotts Old Fashioned as it has a bit more bite and substance.

I'll put in all kinds of nuts, raisins, berries and honey. Heard of people putting in a spoonful of nutella as well

Should add it gets made with water. Milk and salt get added after. Interesting thoughts. Not sure on the whole sweet portage thing but I'm willing to try.

Add lukewarm water to soak it for 1 min or 2.
Add demarara sugar whatever.
Add a pinch of cinnamon.
Add boiling water to soak it for 30 seconds.

That's it. No milk, no boiling, no cooking, no microwave needed.

I use oat milk, so its oats, cooked in oats. If i'm feeling virtuous I add pineapple and honey, otherwise brown sugar.

I assume porage is something southerners eat. I add dried fruit to my porridge. I must admit, at first I was dubious about it's rampant claims that it could replace an egg, bacon and sausage butty, but it's actually not bad.

I feel a bit faint at about 2pm so stock myself up with a chocolate covered pork chop but apart from that porridge seems to do the job.

Summer porage sounds better than Bircher to me?

2 cups rolled oats - jumbo is good
(just a few) whatever seed (or nut) you like. poppy is good
2 or 3 green apples grated - all of it
pinch of salt
spoon of honey
1 cup of water (with some apple juice in if you like)
Lemon zest if you have it

Mix it up, tamp it down - splash a bit of lemon juice cover an put in the fridge over night. Apple doesn't really brown if it's mixed quick though.. Lasts a few days or serves a few..

Why not eat it with splash milk (almond or oat milk is good!), glob of greek yoghurt, more nuts&seeds (toasted mmm) and a bit of chopped fruit of your choice..

Or just eat the overnight oats ๐Ÿ™‚

100g?! You must be shitting rope with that many oats. A normal 40g serving seems to be more than enough for me.

traditional porridge i have with a little salt.

but i prefer to have oats with a nice apple juice (better to use the cloudy naturally pressed stuff). just leave to soak for a minute or two. no cooking needed.

Splash of milk (straight from the cow, none of this bottled crap) and top up with boiling water then simmer on the stove.
Speaking of which I'm late for my breakfast, best crack it on!

4 heaped tablespoons porridge, glass of semi-skimmed milk, 2 minutes in the microwave. Sugar on top, or bananas and honey if I'm feeling fancy.

Half mug oats, half mug water, half mug milk, easy...medium/low heat on hob till pops like lava for about a minute...then lemon curd or banana and honey or nutella. Awesome power meal, flying up the hills for about 45 minutes after a bowl of oats!

It seems Nick has his porage with a big helping of sweeping generalisations.

Sounds delicious!
