Depends what you want him to do with it and/or what he needs/wants to buy.

If its about saving up for stuff and a few sweets etc, then enough a week to actually be able to save. Otherwise a couple of quid - based upon the price of a bag of sweets or toy.

my son at 10yrs old get £10 a month paid into his bank account so he doesn't waste it on sweets.
He used to get £2 a week cash but it just got spent on rubbish, thats why i changed it.

My older son gets £5 a week, but gets his phone topped up for free.

My 3yr old doesnt get pocket money yet. He is happy with his 2p collection 🙂

Ours are 8, nearly 9 and get either £1 to spend on sweets/crap or £2 if they save it - either for something 'worthwhile' or towards holiday money.

The flaw in this method is that they saved diligently for their last holiday then, almost as soon as we arrived, ran to the campsite shop and spunked the lot on sweets/crap.

Started at 50p a week at the age of 4 for both of ours with a 50p increase at 6. It just gets put into their money boxes and used on holidays and trips away. Both get bought treats as and when.
