Anyone changed? How has it been?

Currently, I have Plusnet for my broadband and phone line and Sky for my TV, but I can get BT to do all three for about £13/month less, and it means I can ditch Sky.

I know Plusnet are BT by another name, so the switch over should be fairly straightforward..... or is it?

Not for me it wasn't. I paid in advance online to take advantage of an offer, the phone number swapped over painlessly but they were unable to swap the broadband. After 4 frustrating months of talking to various BT customer service people in the UK and India, I was told the only way to guarantee a transfer was to request a new number and wait up to a further 2 months without broadband or a phone.

I called Plusnet and they price matched BT's offer. BT did eventually refund the full amount as promised by the penultimate (and probably most effective and honest) customer service chap but only after sending me a written bill stating that they wouldn't. One final call to customer services eventually sorted this out - I reckon I made roughly 15+ calls to customer services totalling over 5 hours to not achieve anything particularly useful.

YMMV.

I've always found that Plusnet will negotiate, Got my bill reduced quite easily. Worth a call. Never had an issue with Customer service either.

I could do that but part of the appeal is getting rid of Sky.

A lot of the channels on Plusnet are free view and we don't get Freeview in our area.

If you're going from PlusNet to BT it should be pretty straight forward. Line transfer = 2 weeks, broadband migration, also 2 weeks. The only thing im not sure of is if they can be done simultaneously or one after the other?

Thing with BT for TV is as far as I can tell it's basically a Freeview box using your aerial with YouView integrated for streaming and downloadable content you pay for, but that's highly dependent on your broadband connection. A good FTTC connection then maybe it would be worth it, but if you're on a slow speed I wouldn't bother.

The change from plusnet to BT went seamlessly for me, phone and broadband changed over on the same day.
HOWEVER I spent an over an hour on a phone call to BT this week trying to find out why this months bill was double what the last six months bill was . Turns out they hadn't been billing me for the TV subscription due to "technical issues" so they had back dated it to a random date three months ago. I'm not sure why I had to speak to three different call handlers with the middle one being disconnected from the billing department twice to get that answer. It was 3pm so not a particularly busy time I'd have thought.

where do you live?

BTW don't even consider switching to BT, they are the most useless incompetent shower off sh*te I have ever had the misfortune to have to deal with

I live in West Sussex, about 10 miles from Gatwick. It's stupid as it's a built up area but I've done the online tests and it says it's not available. If BT is the same, ie utilises Freeview, then that is a no go from the beginning.

Freeview is digital TV from your standard aerial.
If you can receive TV, you are receiving freeview as it is the only terrestrial TV service since the digital switchover, you can certainly get it near Gatwick

What is it you say you can't get, where have you been doing the online tests? AS long as your broadband connection is greater than 2Mbps you will be able to get 'Connected TV' which is Freeviews 'smart' services

I'd pay the extra, whatever it is, to stay with Plusnet. even as they swallowed my original ISP, they've been consistently good and I think value for what I pay them.

PlusNet customer service has been way better for me. Better than BT and infinitely better than Virgin (or NTL as they were at the time).

To get the Freeview, Plusnet say you need a Freeview compatible aerial. only Youview is delivered via the broadband connection.

I live in a dip and it suffers from poor signal quality. I don't even bother with tv through the standard aerial and just use the Sky dish. I even had to upgrade the Sky dish to a larger size because of the poor signal.

I might be able to replace the aerial but that's not something I've looked into yet.

I had 8mb DSL and on demand via the BT Youview box was fine, occasionally issues streaming HD but generally OK.

Now on Infinity, means you can choose from extra add-ons including some Sky channels like Discovery etc.

The Youview box isn't as slick to navigate as Sky, but I was only navigating through pages and pages of rubbish channels all interrupted with 10 minute ad breaks. At least you can just navigate backwards on the Youview guide and see all the on-demand/replay stuff, rather than needing to go to the app such as iplayer and do a separate search to find something that was on an hour earlier.

Finally ripped the ugly dish off my house last week, loved it (aerial is hidden in the loft) 😆
