My washing machine is giving me a headache:
It either makes the pipes rattle loudly when filling with water when the valve is fully open or it makes a ridiculously noisy sucking noise when filling with water when the valve is part closed.
So noisy in fact that it wakes MrsTheRed if I put laundry on while she's sleeping.
How best to remedy dear Plumbforumista's?
mount the pipes so they do not rattle?
By "rattle" do you mean "clunk" when it closes its solenoid valve? You can get water hammer arrestors that are an easy install.
Would recommend doing sooner rather than later because the shock will eventually damage other things connected to your plumbing (I recently had to replace a plastic manifold thing in my boiler that had sprung a pinhole leak for which the plumber blamed water hammer).
That's what I though TJagain but it would be a very difficult job given that it's almost all behind panels or plaster.
However Flaperon gets a gold star, on it like a car bonnet.
Do you have high pressure water but not a massive flow? We do and ours bang a bit. The next time I have any plumbing done I'm going to get one of these fitted after the stopcock.
