What is it with all the cheesy ringtones. I got a salesman to plug one in foe me with 32 to choose from. 12 were Christmas tunes, 12 were classical music, 7 were popular songs and only 1 went ding in a rather feeble way. All i want is a good "ding dong" is that too much to ask. I know this is a small inconvenience with everything else going on in the world but I will not be allowed to rest until this is achieved.
Can anyone help or recommend one?

In the interests of helping, after numerous cheap, weather absorbing plastic fall to bits, coin battery buy-cheap-buy-five-times crap I went German - AAA batteries, weatherproof, hex screw-cover, and ringtones!

Like you I just wanted a ding d9ng sound but had to get one with loads of weird tunes. This causes much amusement to my kids who like to keep changing it every few days. To be honest, I quite like some of the tunes now, and they go on for longer so I never miss someone at the door!
Also in the interests of helping with choice, I got a wireless completely battery free one from Amazon. Ringer plugs in to mains but the wireless switch has some kind of piezoelectric thing in it to generate charge when you press the button. Has been working fine for about 5 years now. I'd recommend as you never need to to mess about changing batteries again.

Need a new push button for our wired one to mount on the brickwork. What's weatherproof and lasts well?

I want one that does a big guitar riff followed by a quiet bit and then some falsetto vocals. Yep I want a plug in (baby) doorbell, woahhahhoh
i had a cheap one that played stupid tunes, but now I need another I cant find one.
75 is waaay too much, could get some bars or a tyre for that
i got a Teknet one from amazon too. I set it to the boring old ding-dong (well it had a bit of reverb going on but it was the nearest I could find..). And then! It set itself to some bonkers tune… i couldn't be bothered to change it back. weird though.
My £75 one from up there does ding-dong followed by a vocoder robot dog bark.
It is really annoying. Wired ones are all "nice low-key plain button, actual 'ding dong' bell"; wireless ones are "crazy overdesigned button that looks like a spaceship, stupid bleepy ringtone". Why is there no wireless version of the former?
Until that exists people will just have to knock on our door.
One of these from Amazon. Has the normal ding dong, plus all sorts of others. Also acts as a handy night light if you want it to.
Oh I should say that there is a budget cap on the purchase of £30 as when I said "look at this one for £75 and comes recommended by some random cyclists" I did not get the response I expected. Thanks anyway
Pretty certain my doorbell came from Wilco’s that’s where most of my consumer electrics come from. The bell plugs into a mains socket, the bell push is stuck to the front door frame. It has a basic ding-dong sound, when it works.
By which I mean, when people who come to the door actually press the button, which is deliberately positioned at eye level; most of the time it seems to be invisible, because they just bang on the bloody door!

Just looked mine up - was actually ebay £12 Teknet. Has 38! THIRTYEIGHT! different chimes! 😆
Bell is just a black rectangle with a blue circle (ads make it look lit up, bit it's not - means the battery lasts longer I would think). Apart from it's random change of chime, it's fine. Battery in the bell (the other part is mains) has lasted a year so far. Lolz at £75 for a doorbell!
I just ordered one of the wireless ones so I could get rid of the massive box that the old wired one had in our hallway. Judging by this thread, I may regret that. I've already cut the wires though so there's no going back...

I also thought this, I'm sure half the ones on Amazon are pure junk-grade. But the wireless ones on Screwfix seem sensible enough. Fingers crossed they last a while...
