I took it this morning. Merrily driving along and the vapour trail caught my eye, which then caused me to stop as i wondered what the hell it was, as it moved it genuinely looked as though it was going vertical and Derbyshire was the newly selected venue for one of musk's rocket launches. Was it due to the time of day, the sunlight, the concave glass of the van?

Nah, just tracking across the top of the dome. Nothing to see here.
The plane is probably a lot further away than it looks I once saw something similar & it genuinely looked like it was going up vertically. It was actually over 80 miles away. Dunno why the distance leads to such an illusion.
I would guess the con trail at its furthest has spread but because of perspective it now looks the same width as the closer part.

So, I reckon it’s just a distorted pic combined with an optical illusion and the upper atmosphere winds playing tricks on the eye.

Contrail is in front of the highest clouds so I reckon its an illusion, if it was going vertical it would more likely be behind the higher clouds
I don't see the problem - it's what any vapour trail looks like if the plane is going to pass directly overhead, isn't it?
Exactly as Greybeard says, it’s coming directly towards the observer, and it’s probably around 35,000 feet up. Perspective can be very confusing at times.
Governments do this from time to time when they want to target the chemtrail to a particular area, maybe so they get a higher dose for whatever reason, rather than the normal ones for the general population. Something probably happened recently in the area and the government is manipulating the local population to divert their minds from it.
Well rockets don't climb vertically, they climb on an arc, so not a rocket.

The plane is very high indeed, could even be 40,000 feet. So not surprisingly the vapour trail can be seen for a long distance. Flightradar24 would have confirmed where it was going.
If it was vertical there wouldn't be a consistent vapor trail.

It's exactly the kind of misunderstanding of perspective they use to support their argument.

The reality in both cases is that stuff is further away than your brain is accounting for and vanishing point perspective means that something which is actually passing over your head often looks like it is going straight up and down.
